    RS2 Wheels and Calipers Sorted

    Hi Chaps

Finally managed to get my Wheels and Brake Calipers refurbed. They were really pi**ing me off and let the car down. My brother-in-law decided to sparay all four wheels in one hit over the last bank holiday, pretty poor weather but soldiered on regardless! And we did the calipers in situ, front big reds in pretty good condition, but the rears were really poor. Decided to paint all four a slightly deeper red than the Guards Red.
The Cups had been pretty poorly repaired by a Comedy Wheel refurb gentleman recommended by a main dealer (sound familar?) who tried to charge me £250 for the privilege! These took a lot of hard work on B-I-L's part. After the tyres were off, we "Wonder Wheels'd" the backs of them and keyed them and did the repairs. Anthony got on with spraying whilst I keyed and masked the Calipers.

Day 2 and 3 coats of silver on the wheels and 4 coats of red on the calipers, time to put new Porsche decals on and Lacquer both wheels and Calipers. We utilised Anthony's Greenhouse as a spray booth.

Only thing I need to address now is passengers side door trim which my darling wife "caught" on a high kerb.....very annoying!!!! Oh and get the front grills repainted, looking a little shabby.

Service time in August, last year used a Main Dealer.....followed a week later by Autopool to rectify all the problems that hadn't been fixed by MD! My give MRC a go this year, any suggestions?

Cheers Chaps, Shrish I'm still gutted for yer!

Very nice. I love the spray booth.

It's about time I got my Cup1 reps done. I wish my friend's new bead blaster would arrive.

                  Tips?

Read this thread! Cheers Pete! http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8453

Hmmm yeah, don't forget to take the spare wheel out of the boot before parking the car in a very tight space and putting it on axle stands! OOppps we did, another weekend then for the spare!

                  Materials
Half Litre Bright Silver, biggest flake we could find
Half Litre Ford Red, Morelli's wanted £60 plus vat for half a litre of correct Guards Red
Good quality Lacquer 4 coats on wheels and calipers
Porsche Decals and Wheel Nuts from design911.co.uk

Bizarrely even though we masked the car thoroughly when painting calipers, when I Megs Claybar'd the car, LOTs of overspray came off.

                  MRC here I come!

                      Looking very good.

The day after I refurbished mine I caught a curb. And the same thing happened with the lower door trim and the wife.

                      You just can't win.

Great Simon New looking wheels and calipers really set the car off IMO.
