OK, it's official I now have Tim's old Avant. It's in Ruby Red, with full RS2 interior and exterior. It's badged an as S2 of course as that's what it is at heart
I have been in Ireland for the past week so only managed to take it out for some 'proper' driving this past 2 days. I had a good drive up to the lakes today, except for a 2-hr hold up on the M4
It's definitely got the "sleeper" approach, I think the coupe could bring out the competitive edge of some ppl at the lights, whereas the Avant doesn't.
Who was the nutter in the Red Golf giving me a wave on the M40, heading towards Brum - thought it coulda been Sal? I got quite a few looks as I was queued up on the M4, a few confused looks (probably wondering why it had Porsche wheels) and some of appreciation... the RS2 looks perhaps make it stand out to your petrol heads, but your average joe doens't even notice it.
Sooo... coming out of Lancaster, an S4 cabriolet was in front. It was 'game on' at the lights and a good launch put us ahead as we pulled up to the motorway... It's a good steep hill on the M6 North from lancaster, some triple-figure speed put him outta sight so i backed right off and exited at the next junction. I figured he hadn't taken the bait, until there was a flash of lights from behind as i approached the roadabout - guess who was back :mischeif: The Avant pulled well in 3rd, was at ~3k rpm, we were neck and neck until he shifted at about 70mph - the avant was just getting going
and by the redline there was a couple of car-lengths in it... in 4th we were still inching away, his missus must've said something coz he gave up
. It was my 1st encounter with an S4
and a victory for the Avant against newer technology!
I'm now looking into projects, a possible bottom-end transplant from the Coupe is on the cards
funded by the sale of my the remainder of the 3B engine
the GT3071 will NOT be for sale
