  • B4 2.6 quattro Avant with factory Sport suspension.

    Hello All.
I have a B4 quattro, 2.6 V6 with factory Sport suspension, which for those who don't know, is the same as the s2 suspension, but 4 stud with single pot brakes.

I did have a long build thread ( more of a rolling resto type thing) on the now defunct Classic Audi forum. I'm gonna slow add some photos of jobs done, for my own records and perhaps to help others if people are interested. Parts are getting hard to find for these old things...
It's on focus ST wheels with m14 x 1.5 trailer wheel bolts, with spigot ring adapters to bring the bore down.
    Not many options in 4x108

    H&R s2 springs

Not many other mods at the minute but slowly gathering bits for maybe an engine swap or just some old school tweaks. Heads and exhaust probably.

I'll slowly start adding a few jobs I've done.

Replaced the corroded fuel lines for copper.
Banjo bolt to convert to flexi, supposedly rated for E10 fuel. The copper lines were flared to stop the braided hose coming off under pressure.

New CV was a ball ache. Local parts man we as good, as we tried three different ones, all had the same issue. This collar needed turning down on the lathe or when you tightened the hub nut up. The CV would not move as it was touching the inside of the hub.

CV joint 893 498 099 MX looks right but splines are too small.

For 80Q Avant ABC: 895 498 099 D (M16) has wrong collar and binds when tightened up fully. Lathed the collar off and it works. (possibly the same as Shaftec CV70N?)

Shaftec CV64N was close but would still need lathe work.

      Boot and assembly kit 895 498 203

I've got some Girling G60 4pots to go on. The s2 has a smaller disc than the V6, but apparently the 4pots do work better. I still haven't got round to Reconditioning them yet. You can get the discs in 4 stud from various other Audis of the period.

Girling G60 setup on a CQ uses 276x25mm disc with 4x108 stud pattern (56mm height type NOT 52mm) available on eBay etc: 895 615 301 B

I made an adapter bracket for an isofix kids seat. The kids have outgrown these now, so if anyone wants to buy the bracket, let me know.

I was chasing an intermittent air bag warning light. Re-soldering everything inside the steering wheel sorted it.

A bit of rust correction. Both sides behind the front wings needed grinding back, some hammerite kurust rust converter and then some paint.

I have a long term aim at making it go a bit better.
If I do, it will probably be a 1.8T conversion.
Others may know better, but from the information I've gathered:

I can use audi 80 1.8 cabriolet engine mounts (engine code ADR.) -which I've purchased.
I can use the ADR radiator, apparently.

This allows one of the longitudinal 1.8T engines to bolt in and on to the current 5 speed box.

I might do that or tune the V6. I do have some spare ABC cylinder heads I could play with.
I don't think I can be bothered with a v8 (40v) swap at this stage.

                      Either way I've purchased Audi s2 20V 7A Flywheel 034105271C

                      T'internet says:
AAN Flwyheel + 12v v6 pressure plate + S4/RS4 Clutch disc will fit but needs the shorter bolts from the 5 cylinder type- (8 of them). Pn 034 105 271 C or 034 105 271 K? Which I've purchased too.
Same release bearing and pilot bearing, I believe...
7a or NG flywheel may need 8mm longer pushrod (presumably on slave cylinder?)

Whatever I do a single mass fly should help.

Could possibly use b3 AAD 2.0 flywheel and starter?

80 cabriolet 1.8 loom can be used. Just add n75 wiring and MAP sensor wiring, but ECU plugs are the same as 1.8t and fuse box connections will be for b4

ABY airbox is a perfect fit. Adapt the 1.8t MAF to fit in the inlet.

Temp switch from an ABA, will make temp gauge read correctly. Or there is an adjustment screw on the back of the gauge.

Info I've gathered regarding potential 1.8T donors. I'm deciphering my old notes so might not all be correct.

Annoyingly my workshop neighbour had a 2000 reg laquer peel passat 1.8tqs, alltrack or 4 motion or whatever the equivalent is. She couldn't give it away, at the time, but I didn't have the space to stash it or the time to strip it. Shame as longitudinal engines are getting rarer too.
