Hi everyone, help needed … I’ve placed a deposit on a low mile S2 over near Norwich. It has very little history but MOT evidence from 2006 regarding mileage. Just wondering if anyone on here knows the car or lives near to Norwich. I’m not a technical person and live 300 miles away. Hope you can help … Andrew

I'm very skeptical of the recorded mileage looking at the condition of the drivers seat bolster. The lack of history also doesn't fill me with confidence about its provenance either. I would approach this purchase with great caution, please question everything about it to satisfy yourself that it is genuine before handing over any more money.Comment

I don't think a long gap is unusual with an S2. However, i agree with the above comments regarding the wear inside which isnt consistent with the claimed mileage. The mileage was only recorded on line from 2005 so there are quite a few years missing from the history. If they have all the early paper records that will help. The seats on these cars are very durable and show little signs of wear until well over 100k.Nothelle S2 Avant

I’ve actually managed to speak to the gentleman that did the MOT last year, he said that if there was any corrosion or wax covering up any corrosion he would have put that down. The mileage adds up since 2006 with time off the road and no MOT’s … the garage say the mileage is correct but no service history to prove it …. I don’t know what to do ??!Comment

I think its overpriced for the condition. If that car was being sold privately with no proof of mileage it would be about £10k.Nothelle S2 Avant

After much searching. This was my drivers seat in May 2020 at circa 150,000 miles, and yes, it is the original.

You’ll also be pleased to learn the speedometers were renowned for failing due to dry joints on the printed circuit boards, ours had a new one fitted by the main dealers at 64k.85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep

Seriously, with S2's a low odometer number alone is almost meaningless. There's members cars here that have been to the moon (mileage wise), easily, and they'll be absolutely mint, and a 110% sound purchase.85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep

I would also agree with all the comments above. Yes it’s attractive sitting on 25k miles but with no history means very little. That in itself is unusual as most members esp on here will have folders of receipts I myself have 2 full a4 folders of receipts and mine is sat on 226k miles and if someone offered 20k I’d turn it down. If in doubt say no thanks and walk away

It's actually an interesting pub style discussion, because knowing what I know now, if I was in the market for an S2, the first thing mechanically I'd look at is whether the suspension, bushes and subframes show regular maintenance ond replacement. Low mileage, original bushings etc, basically means it's all got to come off and be replaced.85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep
