    high temp

evenin all, ive noticed the other day that the temp in the car is slowly rising, so i finally changed the radiator which had a crack in it.
Problem is the temp sits on about 3 lines away from 90, ive never really had the temp needle so high, whilst driving it goes down to below 90 sitting in trafic causes it to rise fan comes in a few times.
    Any ideas lads

sounds normal to me......in theory it should sit bang on 90 or there abouts most of the time. Fan will kick in on these cars quite often in traffic. Have you changed the multi function temp sender and the thermostat as these two normally contribute to the temp guage sitting below or fluctuating when driving and standstill...can also lead to slightly higher fuel consumption too if the MFTS is fubar.

The temp should idealy be just under 90 ,mine was 3 under caused by a broken thermostat mine goes to 2 notch above 90 sat in traffic.
If you are 3 notches under 90 in normal driving you need a new thermostat
the car will perform better and better mpg at the correct operating temp.

get MFTS from VAGParts, (also get the other sensor next to it) both a real PITA to fit...
          Good luck
(I think around £35 for MFTS and about £10 for the other one)
Mine is 90 degrees most of the time, then raises i traffic to 2 or 3 above, but comes down a bit when the fan comes in....
Mght want to check your fan is running at the correct speed, ie, it gets more powerful at higher temps)

VAG parts for the sender and they are a bit fiddly as it is bellow the inlet and coolant manifold... they are know to give all sorts of faults so replace it and see and its some thing like a 24mm spanner (adjustable will do!) clean the connector while you are there with electrical contact cleaner as the rubber boot traps water and corrodes the contacts.

            Any coolant loss?

Have you removed the aux rad? when I did on both my S2's they both ran approx as you discribe so as the fans doing its thang i wouldnt worry to much yet. It has been warm the last couple of days even in the North Sea its hit 20-21 deg's.

I had one of the sensors leak into the connector boot, and as these cars are getting on abit, there could be a innersent reason eg not head gasket

Have a good look round, drop the under tray any water pooled? any damp patches??

Thats it, but you are better off ringing them, and getting both sensors, they will make sure you get the right ones...! You need both sensors in the water manifold
