    296bhp on a K24... So close!

Fitted the RS2 IC at Jamo's on Thursday and got it on the rollers at Castle Combe this weekend. 296bhp and 330ftlbs. So bloomin' close to 300 it hurts. Still got standard DP and cats on it so that should do it! Good to get it back on the rollers after they've been calibrated and get a good result. AFRs were spot on, boost was strong.

    Car spec is:-

    Homefries
    Samcos + all vacuum hoses
Modified airbox with 1 gauze removed on MAF (downstream)
    Forge DV
    Milltek cat back
    RS2 IC

thats a fantastic result...does it feel better with the Rs2 I/c controlling the intake temperatures better than the stock one?

Not made a huge difference TBH but it's getting towards winter and the air is cool anyway. If I had the boost turned up a bit then I'm sure it would make a difference but it's all future proofing!

Its always good to get the runs at the same place as you know its the same or as close as. What was your previous results?

Future plans? removing the cats and remap?

Did 2 runs, one in 3rd and one in 4th, both within 1bhp of each other!

Next plans are head gasket, cambelt and clutch.

By the sound of the car the downpipe is on its way out! Bloody thing! I also think that I've wrecked a wheel bearing in less than a year... does it ever end

The passenger side monoblock has started resonating again, same as it did last time. Not sure if it's due to the track work, the grooved discs or it being damaged when it was fitted but whatever, it's bloomin annoying as you have to left foot brake to stop them resonating. Need to get the anti-rattle pads glued onto the pads again as they had come loose, more than likely due to the heat from the track days. Can do the bearing when I fit the reconditioned front subframe... going to be busy for the next few months.

                  Go on Andy!!

I'm really interested in your progress on this one as mine will have the same spec as yours by the end of the month (assuming no more problems ) but with a turbo back miltek and sports cat.
Then it's just the choice of either taking it to MRC or waiting for a Homefries.
I was hoping to be done by now but as is often the way with S2 ownership events conspired against me and the car has been of the road for the past 2 and 1/2 weeks due to clutch failure and my new suspension and brake upgrade parts being delayed by the postal strikes causing me to miss my original slot at the garage for fitting.

Oh well I get it back either tomorrow or tuesday all being well and that will just leave me with the exhaust to fit and the re-map to have done and then we'll have to wait and see if it makes the magic number or not......
To be perfectly honest I'll be really happy if it makes the kind of figures yours is making now but to break the 300bhp mark would be nice
What I'm more interested in first of all though is the difference the Koni's/H&R's and 996 upgrade make along with new bushes topmounts and bomb.
My goal was first and foremost to get the car handling and stopping well, I just happened to aquire the performance upgrades along the way as well :mischeif:

So fingers, toes, arms, legs, eyes and anything else I can manage crossed it will be plain sailing from here on in
Someone has got to breakthrough 300bhp soon on a standard turbo

Best of luck to you Andy and to anyone else heading down this route. I'll keep you posted of my progress as well... So expect a bullitin next week along the lines of some major part failure and a full on 500+bhp engine re-build Ha!!!

                      Ha!! Cheers David

I don't let it get to me mate, the good times with the car far outweigh the bad
The clutch is the first time it's actually let me down touch wood, and I can't really complain at nearly 150,000 miles on the original clutch.
I'd got some money set aside cause I was assuming it would go sooner or later, it's just been the delayed parts and the length of time without a car that's narked me a bit as it's my daily driver. But I'd sooner have a high performance car with character and pedigree than some faceless supermini or the like

Normal max from a K24 without uprated injectors is about 280 crank HP. Running RS2 injectors, EM, 3 bar MAP and proper software can exceed that but you are really trying to flog a dead horse to get to 300 hp. The poor wee thing has had it by then. Well off its efficiency map, making lots of heat and not much else. The FMIC certainly will help at that point.

I am really not sure how much the 3" turbo back exhaust will help but I suspect a water injection system would give you more bang for the pound/buck.

But really, what is the point? Save for a proper RS2 turbo or a 034 Garrett. Makes more sense (in my opinion).

We have a local (Vancouver BC Canada) club member, Keegan, who has installed a AAN in his 90 CQ. He is running RS2 injectors, 3 Bar map, huge FMIC, standard AAN K24 and RS2 software with a 4" turbo back NO CAT NO MUFFLER SIDE PIPE EXHAUST. The thing goes and sounds like a bat out of HELL. However, on a recent 600 km trip to an S-car meet-up, he and I played Hare and Hounds (me in my RS2'd 93 S4). 2/3rds throught the trip, Keegan stopped at the side of the road. He was totally boiling over (so much heat from the engine and turbo). Had to limp the last 2 hrs of the trip (in the mountains). He could use more radiator too but the point is the K24 was really working over time and the extra heat was one (bad) result.

                          Oh don't get me wrong,

I certainly appreciate that the K24 is not really suited to make the most of the other modifications nor is it designed to push 300bhp.
However my intention is to run it for 6 months or so with this spec (if it lasts that long?) and then replace the turbo and injectors etc most likely skipping the RS2 turbo and going for a garrett/(gt3071?) or similar and heading for a safe 350-400bhp.

I can't speak for Andy on this but I presume he maybe has similar ideas?
My car is a long term project for me and I have been upgrading it in what I believe to be a sensible order, rather than bolting on a big turbo first and wondering why everything else goes bang rather quickly.

As the other upgrade parts are already fitted / purchased and with my long term goal in mind I for one am just interested to see that first dyno plot posted showing 300+ if my turbo goes pop and it costs me a lot of money then so be it and more fool me.

I'm certainly not going to try and recommend this route as a viable long term way to get an S2 above the standard re-map area of 280bhp.
There are clearly tried and tested ways of upgrading developed by people who've been working on these cars a lot longer than I have and I fully intend to follow down similar routes eventually.
In the meantime I see it as a bit of a fun (300bhp is a nice round number after all) and also as a bit of a challenge just to see it done, and to find out how things turn out?
If I end up being one of the guinea pigs and it turns round and bites me in the a*** then I'll report back what happens and actively discourage others from making the same mistakes.
However if it works who knows it may give a useable +20bhp stop gap on the way to bigger things?

@ Mr Casey - 7a cams in the process too????? That may be the touch that is needed to hit the 300 mark????

What is the full spec of your car. I am running a 3b with the following.....

3" straight through pipe with small silencers.(no cat)
Modded AAN IM (to shorten the intakle track a bit- well 5ft to be precise so should compensate for the bigger IC)
Big IC (bigger than RS2 but not as big as Bo's)
                            4Bar pressure regulator
                            AAN injectors

Chris M managed 315 but I think that the rollers weren't too great and a few others have managed it but not with the WGFV being used.

I have no idea why mine produces good power, I think the 160k on the clock might have something to do with it.

I'm not doing anything to the car that can't be used for RS2 spec and at some point in the far off future I may decide to go for a bigger turbo and injectors and a remap... but that's £1500 plus and at present it's quite funny to see what the little k24 can do whilst I sort all the rest of the car out!

There are a few things that need doing now but at some point an RS2 EM and a decent DP and sports cat but that's more money...

Car spec is as above, nothing else to mention other than Tesco 99 fuel. 7a exhaust cam would be nice but is a lot of money and not really required on a Homefried K24.
