    Brilliant Brooklands garage Bristol

    WOW !!!

My ABY S2 is purring... after a visit to my LOVELY local garage.

She sounds and runs so well - the best since I bought her 18 months ago. They are SOOOO good at what they do.

Back in Aug 2006 I spent £900 on new brakes all round, clutch, plugs, major engine seal repair etc etc but she's always sounded a bit like someone was playing a snare drum under the bonnet.

Yesterday she came back after a service, new cam belt and auxilliary belts, water pump and a few bits and bobs. £600 all up... and yes it costs that cos I don't have the confidence or time to DIY...and frankly I'd rather spend a few hundred on labour with someone who knows what they are doing than have some amateur like me fiddling!!!

Anyway ... if you're in the Bristol area the guys at BROOKLANDS garage in 0117 962 6776 or 0117 968 1615 are wonderful. Handful of blokes running quality garage. You meet the people who work on your car, not some place employing monkeys round the back to bash it about.

They also did some excellent work on my wife's Golf TDi

    Yes this is an ad/endorsement

    Vote Brooklands!!

    Phil
(I think I might have left the engine running on my car...she idles so smoothly now it's hard to tell)
    SOLD !

Sounds good, whereabouts in Bristol are they?

Also you don't live just off coldharbour road do you? I've seen a nice looking black coupe with TT(?) wheels around there.

If so you might have seen my green avant about - I live just down the road

Nice to hear a good garage story this week. I personally think £600 is a bit steep for that lot, but if you get treated nicely, the job done properly with no nasty surprises and confidence that all the right parts were fitted then fair 'nuff.

I am not sure it is that steep.

I paid near on £600 for a full cambelt change tensioner etc and a few bits and bobs. That was at the AUTOPOOL Audi Specialists....

Well having done it, I'd say that could be done and dusted comfortably in 4 hours. Even at £75 per hour thats only £300 labour and all the timing belt parts, aux belts & water pump should be about £150. So thats 450 plus VAT which is £530 plus oil, coolant, sundries and hey prestor I suppose you are in the £600 ball park I guess.

Whats the going rate per hour at private garages these days ? I know that Audi will be charging approx 75 and more per hour - which is ridiculous unless you know you are getting an expert technician on the job... But its more often an unsupervised teenager who is still learning the ropes.

i'd have thought your average garage would be £30 - £40/hr......... £75 is hugely expensive IMO. The only jobs I have garages do is things you really need a ramp for or when i know there are nasty seized parts i've already failed to get off myself

Don't see the point in taking an S2 or any older car to dealer when noone that works there will ever have been trained to work on it
They'll just dust off the old service manual and go about it - any monkey can do that with the right tools.

Yes - thats why I think £600 is steep for that job at 4hrs labour. At 40 per hour it starts to look a bit more reasonable - if they have the right tools, mindset and experience to do it right - brings the price into £350-400 territory with the VAT.
