You should be able to do it as it will be on the back so if you can get the front of the car up and get underneath to the back of it. I managed to remove my alternator without removing anything else (bumper etc) on the car.

well had a go at changing the VR this morning and failed miserably because I have AC, the AC radiator gets in the way and I can't get a decent screwdriver on the screws. So then I thought I would drop the alternator down, but couldn't get enough slack in the belt to get the belt of , and now the the adjust bolt for the alternator slide won't go back in
So if it's got to go to the garage then I may as well get a new alternator fitted, the original is a 90A bosch, as long as the Hella (now owned by Bosch BTW) has a swappable VR then I'm going to go for that.
Somebody remind me next time that me and working on cars just never quite works
