My Real player says it's missing the approrpriate encoder, but doesn't offer to download a better one

Try downloading and installing the Kazaa Lite Codec pack, works fine for me.

Read the Readme first though.

Maybe the divx encoder will help. I installed it on mine a while back because I couldn't see some videos and I've had no problems since.
