Yup - same kinda thing as Fat.. a skip lorry hit my car, £1,800 of damage down the side. Luckily a kind passing witness left me a note.. My insurance chased the skip people.. they denied it was them and refused to give any insurance details . I got it fixed on my comp insurance..and when the insurers said they could chase it no further,i bullied them intoemploying a local solicitor who took the skip company to court... They STILL refused to even go to court, got a CC judgement against them... and ONE YEAR later finally paid up.

I'm told bus companies are worse.

    My advice -

1- tell your own insurer immediately.. you won't HAVE to make a claim just cos you tell them

2- speak to Lyons Davidson solicitors in bristol, thats who I used

3 - be prepared to get nothing back... atleast that way anything you do get will be a bonus

    O
    SOLD !

This is dangerous advice IMVHO, which I why I was careful to advise Matt decide the order and timing...let me explain....

          1. All UK insurance companies subscribe to a national vehicle database scheme. Every transaction or event is recorded on this automatically.

          2. The small print on most policies describes an 'event' as 'accidents, incidents or claims' or similar wording.

Now read that 2nd one again Any notification of Matt to his insurance company that an incident occured will be registered on the national database.

If Matt and the other party settle it between themselves and Matt therefore does not claim against him and win, Matt will have an 'incident' against his record even though he has not claimed and the insurance company have not paid out. The fact that Matt did not later claim will NOT remove that event from the database.

This could effect Matts premium for the next 5 years! The only way he can avoid that is to stay with the same company, who will have a clearer understanding of the event.

So please choose your action plan carefully Matt

          Cheers n

Scheiße! Sorry to see that Matt. Disturbing images alright. What a nightmare. I hope you get it sorted out ok. It looks nasty with damage to the wing, bonnet and headlight.

            I can agree with that.

Insurance companies in general piss me off too.

The A3 was parked up when a bus scraped the rear corner, the bus driver did a runner and didn't even notice apparently, although there were a bus load of people that did.
It was lucky it only scratched the rear quarter lightly, but the rear bumper was badly scraped. When the bus company's insurance assessor queried the quote for the repair and checked the damage, he said the bumper could be filled, saving the cost of a new bumper. Errr... WTF? The bumper didn't have any filler in it before it was hit by the bus, so it won't when it's repaired. The assessor still tried to screw the bodyshop guy's price down. Cheeky bastad. They try and shaft you all ways, even when an 'event' is no fault of your own.

Make sure you get it repaired well Matt, and make the ******* pay, one way or another.

 really sorry to see/read about that, what a cr*p birthday present!

I'd be mortified if i came back to that, not least if you then have problems convincing the person who did it to own up

Hope you get it sorted, tons of good advice already it would seem so fingers crossed it helps you resolve it quickly.
              Cheers

Cheers for the advice Si, I will get on to the hire co. to find out who had the ins.

                Matt.
There is a camera which he can verify if he wants to.
So you let him know it was directly in line with the CCTV camera.

He will have to admit it as your boss didn't see the incident, he saw the aftermath.
I have had this issue with a parked hire van which some bint drove into and then drove off. I had a guy knock on the door saying he had seen someone reversing from the side of the van. He gave all the details to the police and they said they could do nothing as he didn't actually see an impact.

If all else fails, give me his address as I fancy some sport, of late.

                    An update;

Managed to get the mobile number of the guy driving the van. Got through to his answerphone so left him a little message.
                    No reply all day.
Found out that he had taken the hire co. insurance so due to the fact that he hasn't admitted the incident I have now contacted my insurance.

The van driver is obviously a muppet, have him skinned alive, and hang his skin up on the fence to remind other useless muppet van drives what happens when they dont pay attention to what there doing!!!

                      hope you get this sorted!

Good news Matt, now you go after the hire co insurance company with the witness statement.

Over to your insurance company to resolve using the written independent witness statement

                        Cheers n

                              Thats unlucky .
i had this happen years ago with a lorry i was lucky though i was at work got a camera and was able to take a photo of my paint on the wagon ( baby blue) would it be worth trying to find the wagon so you can see if there is a mark on it. that lines up with the damage on your car.
