    Cq20v RE2400

Hello, thought I would post some info on my car since I have been hanging around and posting more often on here.

Bought it back in May when I seen it on ebay and pistonheads. I had even missed a local club meet to stay in and make sure I won it.

As it looked in the ads

Sitting outside my house beside my FWD 20v the day after I collected it. The neighbours must have looked twice.

The car was sent to GTi engineering for the RE2400 conversion when it was new (I think before it was even registered)

The RE2400 boosts displacement from 2309cc to 2366cc. This is acheived by opening up the cylinder bores from 82.5 to 83.5mm, the standard crankshaft being retained. The bores take forged autothermic pistons, the head is gas flowed with reshaped inlet ports, the inlet manifold is gas flowed and the valves are reshaped below their heads.

Cost of the RE2400 conversion was £3.350 plus VAT and the work took around 15 days to complete.
A few days after I collected it from Rotherham I took it to Volksfling at biggar and had it on show.

I removed all the stickers, and have had the timing belt done along with a few other small things to put my mind at ease for the time being. Full plan is pretty much what error404 has done fitting her with s2 supension and hubs etc. Also already have Cream leather and the white s2 clocks from my old car.

Yesterday I finaly got her on the rollers. And the claimed figures are now pretty much confirmed.

    I am absolutely delighted.

That's superb, and rare, I'd be delighted too... The GTi Engineering RE2400 Engine conversion for the 20v was far from cheap, but well executed and reliable.

Awesome. That is brilliant. I wonder if the TSR head will give similiar results? Are the cams standard?

I used to have an RE2500 and loved it for the breif time i had it

Nice work and good to see it producing the correct power figures! Looks like a nice car and the best colour too!

So is this what the ellipsoids are going to end up on

nice shot of the pair of them together, do you still have them both or just this one?

Hmmm... 133.1 at the wheels indicates a 33.5% drivetrain loss vs. original claimed power and a 31.5% drivetrain loss vs. claimed flywheel power.
1.8T Quattro A4's with claimed 163hp at the flywheel pull 135hp at the wheels..

Same as other 7As with the same expected power. I would expect modern quattro systems to be far more efficient.

Link to PDF article about the conversion
If anyone has the magazine with that article in it I would be willing to buy it.

I dont know about the TSR head but people keep thinking this has a TSR head due to the registration. The cams are standard.

I still have both cars however the FWD is being stripped.

Good to know the losses are about what is to be expected.

The advert for the car said Pearl White, the Data sticker says Alpine white. What has happened is someone has sprayed a laquer with a pearl blue tint in it over the Alpine white. Doorchecks and under the carpets are all alpine white. I was a wee bit disapointed it is not an original Audi colour. That disapointment disapeared when I seen the GTi engineering receipt and then drove it.

Aye the elipsoids are going on this but I will not be changing bonnets so I need to work something out for a grill to fit.

Got a eprom chip on the way from luxembourg, a spare ecu and another rolling road day planned in a couple of months.........

The chip CLAIMS to be 25bhp over standard. Not sure how this will work with the modified head but on paper it takes me to 3b figures or there abouts.

Not sure if I can get a Live map done on an early 7a hitachi ECU?

I'd be very interested to know the results if you do use the chip/live map as i'm going a similiar route with mine. I have the 034 injectors, and a TSR head waiting to go on. I'd be happy to see those power figures you have

What has been done to the TSR head? IIRC they had 3 stages of tuning but not sure what each stage involved?

Unsure how these chips fit in the ecu, bit worried as I doubt it is as easy as chipping an old xbox, For the cost of 40 quid + a spare ECU it has to be worth a try. Used to spend more than that in the pub.

According to the TSR website there is only one choice which is Pack A. This includes port and polish, and i think some valve work. I'm going to get the head reconed anyway so i may be able to get valve work done if it hasn't already.

I have a chipped ECU for the old style 7A (tubular mani) and used that on my old 7A, noticed a small difference

I have to admit I am a bit dubious about the claims of 25bhp from this chip. Mine is also an early 7a ,hitachi ecu and tubed mani.

Any idea what chip is in it? I know mikes2 has an AMD chip in his later 7a and reckons it makes little difference.

Not sure what chip it is but it has 2 maps, one for normal and one for super fuel. It claims 190, but thats in conjunction with the 034 injectors. Not using it anymore though as i have a newer 7A now so the ecu is different, just using a standard one.

I did notice a difference though on my old 7A.

Ahh ok, if it is claimed in conjunction with the injectors then I would presume it is from 034 or Patrick Carlier himself.

Let me know if you plan to sell as I may be interested. Unless it is still in the old car.

My S2 is 297atf and 240atw, does seem pretty high doesn't it... there are a lot of factors but 20% to 33.5% seems an awfully large increase!
