    Paul,

I've just had a look at the Gtech units, boy they've come along a long way since the early pro unit.

In the interest of R&D I'll invest in the RR unit with software so we have another means of comparison with the bonus of 2hrs of datalogging capacity can't really go wrong.

As for time scale I was hoping to hit Santa Pod this side of the christmas season but with work commitments and temperamental weather I see that unlikely, so the pod will happen at the beginning of next season. Although the Gtech unit should provide some interesting initial analysis prior to the strip.

Dyno runs would be nice to see within the next couple of months, earlier if possible but again I think the Gtech unit will allow more thorough roadtesting than initially considered due to it's logging facilities. So I will most likely extend that portion of the tests.

It should hopefully also show how performance alters through the early miles of each chip as it finds it's happy medium.

Let me know what you consider to be a reasonable timescale to sort out a chip. Worst case scenario to keep the momentum going of this post/experiment I'll proceed to test what I've got as and when and subsequently do a final test at a later date involving standard, best current chip 'x' and your chip so if there is any deviation in results it can be calculated back from the comparisons of previous runs/results.

Thats good to know, we did a rolling road day at PTS a few years ago and didnt know there was another one nearby. Would like to get mine on one soon once I have the aquamist kit fitted.

@RWD - I should be able to rustle up a better generic AAN brew in early December for this exercise. Your investment in a GTech RR will not be wasted - I have one - great little device for back to back analysis on the real road ! One question - what fuel are you running in these tests - any old supermarket 95RON, or something better like Optimax 98 or Tesco 99 ?

@Greg - I'll drop you a PM about something I'd like to try out with Aquamist on your ABY.

Early December will be fine it will allow me to sort out all the other road testing in the interim.

As for fuel I will only fill up with Optimax, or as a last resort BP ultimate for a fiver - so I can drive to a shell station . I will however sometimes put tesco 99 in.

GTech unit is ordered and en route, be interesting ow it's hp and quarter mile times equate to RR and Pod results.

Using the G-Tech RR is a grand idea. I vastly prefer correctly generated accelerometer graphs over dodgy rolling road "flywheel figures". Just look at the huge variation from strapping the car down. Ridiculous.
Here are the graphs that I posted after testing a silly cone filter setup on a S6+ last week. Pay attention to the graph #2 that shows 3 consecutive runs. The graphs almost perfectly overlay. This is what performance testing is all about: being able to judge the effect of modifications at all rpms. This is where the 1st generation G-tech has a serious shortcoming, as it only reports peak hp, which can be very deceiving.
Also check out the pre/post RS2 remap graph. The runs were made days apart, at different temps and barometric pressure, but the Mr Dyno compensates to SAE J1349, so the graphs are completely comparable, as judged by the two graphs before boost hits.

i tested with G-tech and AP-22 before.G-tech i dont really trust. The AP-22 uses GPS for the data and is more accurate, which gave me 313whp on the road on a sunny day.I have heard that the perfomance box is even more accurate and thinking with my brother to buy one this christmas.

I see, what gear did you use for testing?

i have no idea.I dont think so cause it is quite old.
so air drag and gear loss should be added

Assuming power peak at 7000rpm, you are doing approx 200km/h at power peak.
Loss to aerodynamic drag at that speed is approx. 75hp

yes but my peak power is not at 7000rpm,but lower, around 6000rpm.On 4th gear im doing about 180kms around that area(i think so,cant be sure)

Now I dont know much about this kind of stuff, but I am very interested to learn about software tuning. I was wondering if you were to take each chip and put them in different ecu's then drive them to let them adapt, then take each ecu with the chips in them and put them in the car at the dyno so that you wouldnt need to do it on different days and they would already be setup properly. Would this help or do once you take out the ecu does it reset its self and have to re learn again? just a thought that might help you out. Great thread by the way.

The GTech may be acurate, maybe not, same with the dyno that is being used what I'm looking at is consistency in calibration between the results which both are capable of doing. I had a look at the GPS ones however I feel they are more suited to track use as opposed to road use as I cant even get Tom Tom to work accuratelly in my area let alone calculate my 0-60mph etc....

Anyways back to the proceedings. I've decided for sake of initial chip testing to leave the standard AAN cam in so we are relying slightly less on the ECU's adaptebility. This will also make the results a bit fairer incase the self learning parameters are exceeded. I've also dug out my old Zeitronix unit that I used to use on setting up v8 carbs and will be plumbing in a wideband lambda, boost sensor and EGT probe so this can be datalogged alongside the information of the Gtech unit. It will also give me piece of mind as at the end of the day the car is my daily and would be good for everything to stay in one piece.

Once the chip results are in then I'll start the next proceeding of what can be gained further by use of the generic chip and other mods like the RS2 cams and a fully ported head.
