    Blue smoke on startup

Alright lads, the car has been standing for just over a year while working on it, started it about a month ago and it chuffed out blue smoke for a couple of minutes, which i supose is understandable, had an exhaust fitted id did the same bear in mind it clears after about a minute, then ran it to mot it blew nothin due to startin it nearly everyday, done a round trip of about 20 odd miles whilst motin it changed the oil put in 15/50 fully synthetic valvoline.

Also havin done the catch tank ages ago i got around to plumin the last pipe in, its the ones that if any oil is in tank it drains back into sump plug, drove it home seemed sound no smoke whilst drivin.

Started it next mornin ***** loads of blue smoke after about 30 secs, checked oil level its between max/min, only puttin in 4ltrs of oil 1st thought it was too much.

Any ideas chaps also i have took the boost pipe off and theres no oil inside the pipe.
(sorry its a bit long winded)

i had a problem like this on my 93. s4
there was leaking oil from the turbo into the exhaust. (worn out turbo)
but after a little drive, heating up the oil and the turbo. it stopped.
      does the smoke smell diffrent?

Could it be your value stem oil seals, if thats the right terminology? Mind were past their best and it was doing the same thing every morning, but once that initial bit had burnt off it was fine... Then the head gasket went so I got them done then and it was ok.

Sadly, it seems my turbo is now leaking a little oil as Hainch also said, and is smoking on start up again!

            My experience...

            Hi

I had a very similar problem which drove me nuts...for weeks, under almost all conditions it would smoke for a few minutes after start-up. I was advised that it may be the Turbo Seals - even though they had been "done" less than 6 months before.

Anyway they took the turbo out and reported it was 100% but redid the seals anyway. The only thing the found was that the drain pipe from the turbo back to the sump was blocked so they cleaned it out and the problem was gone.

I am not 100% sure about my terminology - I am recounting what I was told - but I am guessing that if you replaced/ cleaned the Turbo drain pipe you problem might be solved.

            Good luck!

I hope you find the problem.
if the drainpipe is blocked, or almost blocked. then the thick cold oil wont go trough as easy as the warm one.
then get pressed through the seals making blue/grey smoke. and then stop when it gets warmer.
thats what first came to my head.

Check your drainpipe and let us know.

                      Excellent, problem solved then

Are you leaving that turbo on or is it just a tester, and you now have to send your other off for repair?
