Seems like a perfectly respectable project for an "ugly duckling" to me.
Best of luck, I look forward to seeing it going sideways at Coombe in October.

I dunno why you'd buy an Avant just to whore it round a track... Thats what Coupes & Saloons are for... Looks too nice as others have said.
I'm not saying a well driven / sorted Avant can't be quick or fun on the track - its just not really supposed to be there - except as a chase / crew / support vehicle complete with tow bar to bring the tracktoy out to play... That's what I would do in fantasy land !!
Was it TWR that said the estate was much better at going around race tracks due to the lower rear drag, and audi that said the estates just look better going around the track... ( the last one was a blag.)
Just thought id edit the fact that everyone else has already said this.
I think price was the motivator here - this car was up for sale asking price £1500, makes for a relatively cheap track toy. To me it's not so much about having an Avant track car (personally I like the idea but then I'm biased to the slipper wagon) but why you'd have such a heavy beast - it's end weight will probably be the same as a fully loaded S2 Avant Again - price...
Look forward to seeing this one progress, and expect a good blast in it... oh and get it homefried, just don't tell Paul what it's for
Mind you, anyone else remember the gold C3 100 avant with the S2 jump in it at ADI a few years ago. Pimpmobile...
Yes i certainly do, it was me and Spink who were driving it
I tracked my S2 quite a few times and TBH although it was faster than the 100, i had more fun in the 100, and passing an RS4 down the main straight was the icing on the cake. Comical body roll, and it didnt have 996's on then, but a great car, upset many owners of expensive exotica out on the road. The looks on peoples faces was priceless, not bad for £800.
Well... I'm biased, an Avant does make a surprising motorsport weapon. In last years hillclimbs it was quicker than more than a few tuned Scoobies and had the 'WTF is that' the factor. The Clerk of the course at Doune could not believe the 60ft times the car pulled, nor could the rest of my class when I got 2nd place or the all Ferraris that got clubbed by an old Audi estate
Since I managed to pick up an S4 for a £675 bargain price tag, I can see the appeal... but not for me this time. The S4 is for a towcar... but I need to be able to run it too, so it's going diseasal and the AAN lump is going into the coupe. No doubt I'll have many a bipolar swing while doing the conversion but since I saved it from the breakers - I reserve the right to convert it
FYI I had the S4 on the corner weight scales last week doing some preconversion measurements. I've attached the two screenshots. 1755kgs on a half tank of fuel and no driver/no spare.
It looks slightly better balanced, but there's not much in it. I'm sure that the cars were in a similar state, i.e full interior and half tank of full - no driver/no spare. So the S4 is around 150kgs heavier. My S4 is currently an auto so may well be 10 to 15kgs heavier than a manual
just saw your post... yeah, when I took the seats etc out I saved another 70kgs, but it still had doorcards and all electrics. It only hillclimbed at weekends
