me mate drove it back and reconned its better than his Rover turbo 820 ( not hard!)

was owned by an old forum member -quattro mad?
just need to respray the bonnet and fit a new front wing to cure the dreaded arch rust
otherwise it ll just be driven
seats are heated and air con fitted too!
would rs2 front anti roll bar fit it? i ve got one in the garage, and a rear one too!

Front one will do, rear one if its an rs2 item won't but if its a whiteline etc will do.

well, i had a drive of it yesterday pm, although brief
wheels wobble like mad over 50 mph, need a balance
but what i did notice was a lack of performance compared to the last n/a quattro(my dad's kv type85)
guy i had it from said he d fitted bronze gear to dizzy and it may need timing doing, it doesn t sound far off but i ve yet to put a strobe on it.
should they be a good torque engine or more a revver?
seats are lovely though, do they fit s2 coupes? heating in them, didn t realise the spec was so good on the car, a/c elec roof etc
going to fit replacement front wings and give the body some tlc, needs paint in places but shell is solid

They need revving unlike the kv's which go well from low down, power is up the top of the rev range. Has it got a tubular manifold? that will help make it rev easier.

Seats will fit an s2 (either the 3b or aby have the handles on the different side can't remember of hand which one's which way around.)

I can post up the pictures of the timing marks if you want me to, simple to do on a 20v.

as pete says , they love to rev. the 10v and 20v share Similar characteristics to the 16v golf compared 8v. 10v is more torquey lower down and the 20v loves to rev. If it hasnt got early tubular manifold id recommend getting one. Seems to give it more of a kick between 3500-4k. Ive got one here but no downpipe if you want one

You have to learn to drive them very differently to 10v's and 20vt's.

First thing to note is the throttle body, it has two butterflys and you can feel when the second starts to opens with the throttle pedal about half way down. The first throttle body does **** all, it gives you fine throttle control on steady cruise but if you drive off through the gears using the first throttle body the traffic will leave you behind. The key is to just open the second throttle body and that gives you enough go below 3000rpms to stay ahead of the traffic. Any more throttle is pointless, and WOT will only cause it to bog. Once you get used to that it will be much easier to live with.

If you want some get up and go you have to keep it above 4000rpms, when i had mine on a dyno peak torque was ~4800rpm, and peak power was at 6350rpms so you really do have to wind them out. Its a different kind of fun, and not unlike a high revving Japanese engine dare i say it.

Agreed with Mark - had both a KV and a 7A in the past (wish I'd kept them too for posterity)... KV lovely and smooth tractable burble from low revs - its only a 100kW engine but it has a nice character which is relaxing to drive even when in a hurry. The 7A wants to rev alright... First I drove it I thought there was something under the gas pedal with that transition on the throttle I love the sound of both of them. The 7A makes 25% more power but I bet the KV makes more torque low down in the revs - never seen graphs to prove that though.
