    My ABY Coupe (it's alive)...

Having been off the road for nearly 3 years I've finally got around to starting on the "to do" list: The reason it was taken off the road was because of a seized alternator which snapped the alternator belt, so that was 1st on my list.

    1. Recondition Alternator and change belt.
    2. Get it up on axle stands.
    3. Fix the exhaust.
    4. Recondition all of the standard brake calipers and flush fluid.
    5. Timing belt kit and all associated parts in there.

That was the list before I started but it has grown a bit

    6. Replace leaking oil cooler and bracket.
    4. Find out why the air con isn't working.
    8. Fix rusty o/s wing where the bumper is mounted.

    9. Dump the cd changer.
    10. New tyres.
    11. Red Car with pink mirrors so they need a respray too.

So to start off my main aim is to get this car running and back on the road, using genuine parts where possible and make it easy to maintain in the future. The car has 145k miles on the clock is almost 100% original so I'll be trying to keep it that way as much as possible.

I stripped out the alternator and had it reconditioned by a local specialist and refitted it with a shiney new belt from audi. This was the 1st part of the job, after a few cranks of the engine by hand I attempted to jump start it. Unbelieveable, it started within the 1st turn of the engine.

While I was taking off the alternator the two lower bolts were a complete PITA to remove. I decided to spray the ends of these bolts with WAXOYL and hopefully they will be a bit easier to remove the next time round. I'm researching a better product for this job but it'll do this particular job for the moment.

So on to the exhaust.... I had planned to go for a catback stainless, but looking at it earlier, there's a while left in it yet.
The joint over the rear axle fell apart and this is what I'm left with...

What I want to research now is a method of joining these 2 flanges without having to buy a new exhaust, I have a few ideas so hopefully in the next few days I'll have it sorted.

I take it the flanges are missing? as in the pic below

If they are you could try an exhaust clamp and a new audi seal (item 3 in pic)
The type of clamp i mean is the one from some of the vauxhalls or peugeots for the rear boxes, meaure the diameter and see what you can get to fit

@dubmeister that's exactly what i was thinking of, the clamping part that holds the 2 parts of the exhaust together rusted into nothing so what I removed belongs in a scrap yard. I'll sign up to vagcat now, thank you,
