Those of you on the classic Audi forum will know about this. I've recently started working as a mechanic again at a local garage as I've decided the building trade sucks. This 2.0 8V B3 quattro Saloon has been sat in their yard for months so I offered the guy who runs the garage cost value for it and he said yes as he just wants shot of it. Got it for a bargain price and I'm paying for it by doing a few hours overtime.
It's got a FSH, MOT, 140K miles, runs/drives perfectly, is completely standard and straight. I'm going to using it for thrashing round in the snow next winter and doing some light off roading.
There's a bit of a question when it comes to the plate. The guy who runs the garage bought the car at auction specifically for it's plate, he was also tipped off by the auctioneer that the car would be a good buy as he knew it's history it belonging to a friend of his. However it transpires that the plate may not be transferable. If it's transferable then I get the car for peanuts if not then it's going to cost me a couple of hundred quid which I can pay when I like by doing a bit of overtime and I keep the plate. An arrangement I'm very happy with, though I'd obviously rather the plate be transferred as the less it costs me the better.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it as yet, I may prep it for nav rallies, there's a couple of local clubs and I'm friends with active members. Another option I'm tempted by jacking it up a couple of inches and using it a lane/snow car.
There's also the dark shadow of conversion to either a 1.8T or a G60 engine. which I'm trying not to think about. That said having had a 200BHP G60 Corrado if a crashed G60 were to come up cheap then I'd be bloody tempted as I could break the Corrado and get the engine for free. I loved my G60's power delivery, combined with quattro it would make a great car.
I really should try and leave it alone 'for the time being anyway' as it runs perfectly. I'm not far off finished with my S2 and about to embark on my T85 90Q 10VT project.
A few shots of her, she's a bit dirty as I've been testing how good it is off road. It goes anywhere the only limitation being ground clearance, and gravity.
