    MRC's FATS performance database

Actual performance on the road is far more interesting than often wildly varying numbers from different rolling roads, so time to speed is becoming the norm for a large number of enthusiasts. 60-130mph and 100-200km/h are the most common, but that involves some very illegal speeds.
The good Audi B5 S4 bunch established the FATS test, which is nothing more than using Vagcom to time 4200-6500rpm in 3rd gear. This is pretty close to 60-90mph.
This still involves high speed, so caution must be taken, of course.

Very easy to log, just do a log of for example IAT and plug the numbers for rpm and time into the MRC FATS database.

Huge amount of data for the B5 S4:

    B5 RS4:

So far only two entries for S2/RS2. We need more to show that our I5's can school the newer cars

Note that with stock tires, the 3rd gear ratio of the 6 speed S2/RS2 trannys is 6.8% shorter than the B5 S4. However, our 3rd gear ratio matches that of the B5 RS4.

    Same as this thread http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39813

Personally FATS more of a bi-turbo thing, never been interested in FATS figures be interesting to see if it takes off as it didnt in the previous attempt

Yup, the MRC entry form actually works now (didn't for a long time), so hopefully more people will enter data now.
Biturbos will have an advantage, but stock turboed I5's will reach peak torque well before 4200rpm in 3rd, many bigger turbos too.
Very big turbos or peaky NA engines will suffer, though

Any idea who ran the http://fats.audi-quattro.org/ site? Completely offline. Could do with tidying it up or failing that i'll write a new FATS database if somebody can tell me what info it needs?

          Wohoo, thread revival

I think it was Nyet or someone at Audi World/Quattro World that ran it?
Using VagCom for timing lost some of its appeal after 10Hz GPS (RaceLogic, QStarz, etc) became commonplace, but it is still a very nice way to track real world performance, and can be done with a £5 Vagcom generic lead and the VCDS Lite program that is free of charge.

Safe place to test, flat grund and 3rd gear pulls from 4200rpm to 6500rpm is all that is needed. Start WOT from say 2000rpm in 3rd.
The data can also be used to generate accurate power/torque graphs (at the wheels, naturally) using the VDR program, although Vagcom resolution is pretty low.
Seem to remember that Dmitri had some tweaks that would increase Vagcom resolution by a whole lot.
