    S2 Weight

Just popped the S2 over the Weighbridge. I've been meaning to do it for years as I normally only weigh the RallyRep (to see if throwing away more trim or bodywork is required)... But anyway.

Car had me in it, with the two children 8yrs and 4yrs respectively, and their car seats.

Standard S2 Avant with original exhaust.
    Nothing in the boot.
3/4 of a tank of fuel.
Usual bits and bobs in the cabin (maps, pens, bottle of water etc)
    Screenwash half full.

    She weighed in at -

    970kg front axle
    760kg rear axle
    Gross
    1730kg
Weighed me and the kids. We equated to 123kg.
    Me at 78kg

    So that gives 1607kg.

    Cabin 'detritus' probably another 15kg

So we're about 1590kg wet running weight without driver.

    Heavy, in other words...

It works out that, with me in it alone, it'd have been 1685kg today.

The last time I weighed the Ur quattro it was.
    830kg
    560kg
    1390kg
With me in it alone at 78kg

    And the Rallyrep was
    760kg
    490kg
    1250kg
With me in it alone at 78kg.

    Both on about half tanks.

Sounds about right to me , I would say your way bridge is spot on according to spec it should have a kerb weight of 1560 kg , that of course would be without fuel in the tank etc.

The link is to carfolio.com with all,the s2 model weights just a click away , interesting to see the RS2 is 35 kg more than the standard avant , you would think porsche would have reduced the weight not made it more .

450 hp in a UR , that makes a good power to weight ratio.

Gawd Darren, how did you get it down that low! That's over 100kg lighter than our Ur. Did you fit carbon panels and lightweight seats...

The WR has some heavy components under the bonnet, air box metering head all the ancillaries etc etc by comparison to what is fitted now.

The original inter-cooler is also very heavy with cast end caps and piping.

The biggest saving was in the exhaust system the original pipework including down pipe is so heavy, its replacement is feather weight by comparison.

I also removed the radio and all the speakers and associated wiring, in fact any unnecessary wiring throughout.

Bottom line anything that was unnecessary that didn't compromise the car to much by removing it was removed.

Fuel accumulator removed has just also sprung to mind, all these bits add up. Another.... 996 monos are significantly lighter than G60's it goes on....

looking at those figures, is the coupe working out about 100kg lighter than a similar spec avant?

Sounds spot on. I worked out there was 100kg difference between a CQ20v and S2 coupe, and another 100kg difference between an S2 coupe and S2 Avant.

Very interesting thread this, i'm hoping to keep my urq around the 1300kg weight, problem I have will be:

heavier seats (same as yours darren)
                        bigger than stock rims
                        bigger brakes
                        s2 running gear

so will see how I get on.

Ran my s2 over a weigh bridge this evening.

                          Front 910
                          Rear 580
                          Gross 1490

This was partially stripped interior, no carpets or rear seats.

All seat belts, fr and rear door cards left in, spare wheel and tools, less than 1/4 tank of fuel.

                          I weigh approx 100kg

So currently 1390kg, ***** weight distribution

Will try and do it again once the rest of the unecessary weight is removed. Going to be difficult to get it under 1300, 1350 maybe.

My mates Integra type r with a full tank of fuel and driver, 75kg, weighed 1200 dead.

The lowest I've recorded with the RallyWreck is 1230kg, and that was with me in it... I think you're about spot on with the 1350 weight for the S2 unless you really, really, start going nuts with the weight loss/spending. That said, 1350kg with the grip and power of an S2 will make for a nice car, as the handling and performance will be coming back into you with the weight loss.

As a demonstration of this, today, I filled the RallyWreck up to a full tank, and it feels bloated, less nimble and 'damped' in its reactions... As you lose weight, so weight changes (like fuel/passengers etc) become highlighted.

The problem is, now you've done it once, the weighbridge will become your friend.
