S2 - Silly little job day.

Had a really good morning this morning... Sorted out the rpm hunting, then John over at JMR (thanks John) lent me a ramp for an hour. So I popped over and sorted out the squeaking heater fan, checked all the fuel and brake lines, sprayed up the lines and the subframes with copious amounts of VAG waxoil, renewed an exhaust hanger and generally gave it a good inspection ready for winter. Refitted the undertray and tidied up the cowling around the Radiators. It's amazing how much you can get done in an hour in a dry warm workshop with a proper ramp...

It feels like a happy car at the moment.

Wish my day was as productive, trying to do the heater matrix on the 3B in the nice cold and rain!

cheers, i'm in Hereford at the moment unfortunately lol .

Am at the point where I need to get the last bolt undone on the matrix, can see it just under the coil I think.

Should get it finished with a couple of hours work tomorrow. Its a shame that the days are so short now!

I did the matrix on our one a couple of years ago, I've got to admit, it's not something I'd be queuing up to do again... I suspect you've seen the 'guide' kicking about on here...

Feel guilty now, having access to a heated garage with a lift, just to squirt a bit of waxoil about, and you're on a windswept driveway doing a heater matrix....

No, did not see that but I had a look at the one Acidburn did on the forum, that one is a lot more in depth though. By the looks of that one I only have the buried bottom heater matrix bolt to undo!

Yep, I'd guess so, and the small job of throwing the whole lot back in!

thats weird i live not far from hereford and have just finished putting in a new heater matrix in today , been putting it off about 3 months .
i too have an heated workshop . . its still a git of a job lol . that bottom bolt is hard to get too though. . i took the heater out in 2 parts by taking the clips off that join the fan/ ac side to the matrix side.
all in all its not a job i would want to do again . but i wouldn't want to pay someone either. i bet it would cost a pretty penny at audi
coilpacks powersteering pump this weekend . and that should be it for a while i hope.

Hi, where about in Hereford are you? how the hell did you get that bottom bolt off on the heater matrix/bulk head, I just cant see any way of getting to it without taking about 10 things out first. Really testing my patience now, prob the worst job I have done on a car!

ISTR removing the strut brace and air con pipes, might have been a few other bits I had to stretch/push out of the way. And even then I'd only get an 8th of a turn on it.

Thank god for that!! got it out at last! took the coil out, moved to loom forward then tapped the bolt around with a hammer and screw driver. Matrix was completely gone, but also showed how good that k-seal it is. Only the small feat of putting it all back together now!

Well done... Word of wisdom... check the instrument and switch bulbs as you go... screwed all of mine back together and found many of the bulbs had blown with the disturbance...
