I've not posted anything about what I'm up to with my own car for ages. After I've spent the week working on customers cars, trying to find the energy let alone the enthusiasm to work on my own cars is very hard. This time of year is particularly bad as it's dark most of the time and cold spanners don't feel nice, simples.
This issue is the main reason I recently got rid of my B2 90Q and both B3 80Q's, broke my B4 Coupe then got another MK II GTi. They are a joy to work on and so much fun, as close to a Lego sports car as you can get I reckon.
Due mainly to work but partially due to a nasty injury last year I was never going to finish the others to my standards, now I've cut it down to just the S2 and Golf, thing are actually happening to both. Slowly, but happening as opposed to being static and rotting has got to be progress.
Don't worry, I've been busy on the S2
. Doing a compressive job of sorting out the breather system with lot's of nice braided steel hose, various AN fittings and a home made swill pot/catch tank with crank case return and breather outlet to standard arrangment. Even used some bit's of an NG breather system for the main crank case breather and a double breather on the head. Pic's and details to follow on my S2 thread once I get the ally welding done. That and cleaning and painting brake parts as well as mounting and plumbing in the 13 row oil cooler is about all I've found time for in the past six months S2 wise
. Oh, I forgot I've welded in various bosses, made a nice tidy loom and fitted my Zeitrinoix unit. Remounted the ECU in the standard location using my own brackets for easy removal, also now have my own VAGCOM.
Anyway here's the Golf, it sooooo much fun

The golf is stinking dirty, but I don't care I use every day for all sorts, carrying engines parts, scrap, dogs ETC.
Plan is as standard as possible looks looks with a dirty 6A based 2.0 8K RPM short stroke motor, balanced cross drilled crack assembly, head work, oversize valves, tampered with warm up reg and metering head. Plus what ever else it take to make it work as OE but with 180 BHP. Got most the parts, but I'm taking my time over the engine build as it's goes like a scalded cat as it is.
Same with the handling, Eibach replacement standard springs, Koni dampers, lots of poly buses, stitch welded wish bones and subframe, Corrado ARB with my own homebrew mounts, chassis/subframe bracing.. New ball joints, tie rods/e****, ETC. S2 G60 front callipers under 14" BBS wheels will finish of that sector. Got all the parts sat waiting along with the stuff to do a complete overhaul of the gear selection system

I remember those front bumper bolts being a right PITA to work on
I had a white H plate big bumper model for 8+ years done the ABF conversion (with a bit of tinkering) in the end, G60 brakes, Koni coilovers fantastic car and went like a rocket loved it

oak green the best colour for a mk2 IMHO...
