    Ur vs 996tt

Following on from my previous thread re: .82 housing swap, I have had a chance this evening to give it a good test. And I have to say I'm darn impressed!

It just keeps pulling whereas it previously felt like it went flat, which I guess it did due to being choked. Lag is minimal and certainly not an issue at all on my set up.

I then drove both cars back to back over the same distance and same bit of road, land mark to land mark, I have not measured the distance as its not really required for the back to back testing I did..

Anyway the Ur reached 112 and the 996 reached 104, pretty impressive stuff given the 996 pushes out 550bhp.. Whilst I appreciate the speedos may not be that accurate it does demonstrate that they are darn close, pretty impressive given how modified the 996 is plus the Ur needs more gear changes...

To be fair to the 996 it achieves it whilst feeling like its not even breaking a sweet and at only 1.1 bar. God knows what bigger injectors, intercoolers and 1.5 bar would feel like. The turbos are good for 640/650..

Anyway I think the Ur now ticks all the boxes and feels seriously quick but with out the explosive/flat line feeling it had previously.

    Impressed, yep.....

Glad to see the new turbo worked a treat then Darren...sounds like you can tick gearboxes off the UR consumables list

Grab your G-Tech (or 5/10Hz GPS if you have since upgraded) and check 60-90mph in 3rd gear on both cars.
The UR won't reach 100mph in 3rd, but should do 90, I think? If not, 60-80mph will do. I have a database of 100's of fast cars for comparison.

Will do, do you hold it at 60 then floor it or start from say zero and just drive through it to get the readings?

Shift into 3rd at around 40mph and go WOT so that you have max possible boost at 60

I have been in a remapped 996 on track and it just seemed to effortlessly real in the horizon. Cant imagine that level of performance in a ur, sounds wonderful, bet it does sound good too

The UR was brutal before, sounds like its been tamed a little but it's gorgeous - full stop!

That's the big difference, the ur certainly doesn't get there in what feels like an effortless surge, it takes some darn hanging on to to keep it in a straight line off the line. whereas the 996 could be driven with one hand, lol ur every-time then....

Do you find other performance cars don't really have a go?

Apart from the loud exhaust, people never seem to suspect anything of mine.

                      The stealth Factor.....

I wouldn't do anything stupid, but my chances to surprise people seem to have been dissapiontingly limited of late! (apart from an Evo or two

I'd imagine your other cars get a lot more attention, admitedly sometimes the wrong sort of attention.

I also drive a MK2 Focus RS, which is not exactly a subtle, so everyone seems to want a piece of me wherever I am, can be annoying when still half asleep on the way to work.

If I encounter something truly rapid I always find myself wishing I was in the ur!

Your right, the ur seems to get more glares of admiration than chases... which as you say cant be said for the others particularly the 996.

Had a blast in the 996 with an R8 V10 on trade plates a couple of weeks ago, the sales man must have said boot it that wont keep up, must have been a little embarrassing when he pulled over and i pulled past it..

Hopefully you are able to bring it to MRC's next S2forum rolling road event, and we can all get to see the print out, and get a refresh on the spec.

                          Well wear !

                          Kind regards.

I will do this, just struggling as i have a new computer which does not have the correct port for connecting (RS232) the Gtech to it, fired up an old laptop and that has it but wont connect to the Internet to down load the software!!!

Will try and down load on to a memory stick from the new one and put that on the old one and hey presto!!! i hope.

Need to pick up the USB conversion cable..

I have a peformance box, so should be able to measure mine in the same way once it's re-mapped.

You've got a bigger blower than me though!
