HID Kit for Golf Mk5 - CANBUS problems?

    Hi All,

Looking at getting some xenons to go on the Golf and keep seeing warning about CANBUS compatible kits. I assume this is due to it generating an error on the bulb check like it can on the S2's. Difference in price of kit seems to be about £100 extra which seems a bit steep.

Does anyone have experience with these? and will a relay on the circuit stop the CANBUS bulb check complaining?

I thought a simple resistor does the trick? not 100% sure though

On golf MK IV almost for sure you don't have a lamp check module so you don't need to worry about CAN bus compatible HID's .
None of many many Golf IV that I repaired didn't had a lamp check module.
Get a kit with 4300k and you will be fine . Don't get a hid color more that 6000k because you won't see anything on the rain or fog .

Dont know whatt i was on the other day. Its a Golf Mk5 if that makes a difference.

Been trying to find 4300k kits but they seem a bit few and far between when I have looked

On Golf MKV YOU HAVE a bulb check control. So you need to buy a good kit or you will have issues with your windscreen wiper motor.

You can pay less than 100 quid for a good kit. You only need to know which to buy.

And for the color, as said before, try to find 4300K, that is the best for visibility.
5000 is the highest I would go.

Here is how 5000 looks on mine:

This is the furthest I would go, as if you go any higher, the rain and fog visibility starts to get really bad.

Didnt think it would affect windscreen motor. Does putting a relay on the bulb circuit solve the bulb check problem like it does on the S2's?

its all to do with resistance of wires and frequency of the high/low canbus system
good quality kits should be fine

its other bulbs, i.e no. plate bulbs etc where people LED them that need resistors fitted, if that makes sense?

6000k is the best balance between light and blue, been running 6000k kits for years now. Will upgrade the RS4 bulbs to 6000k in a month or two

Most hid kits for the mk5 will result in the cecm being burnt out

If you had a direct comparison between 4300k and 6000k in the rain you would see what we are on about.
                            The difference is pretty immense.

Off topic on car but on topic for lights.

For the s2, would slim ballasts be the best choice to go for?? Or just a standard size?
