Some updates - AC and S2 bumpers

Last month I had time to install automatic AC system. 4 days of work and it's working. I love the modern look of it and also the next summer will be cool.

Some pics of details: wiring, ac pump bracket, sensors, display and all the rest (click for larger images)

    First testing:

Had to make a hole for ac plumbing:

    2nd testing:

    Under bonnet pics:

    Ready and 0 faults:

In August I found Competition front bumper (exactly the same as S2) for sale. It needs repairing, but the price was only 10 euros, so I almost got it for nothing. At the same time I was installing AC I tried to fit it, just to get a view of new look. It fit perfectly and even it was red and needed repairing it made huge difference:

Some weeks later I received an offer for S2 back bumper. It was also cheap and needed a bit of work, so I decided to buy it. Months ago I also bought V6 exhaust, which looks like S2 one:

I'm planning to fix them during the winter so when the spring comes I can put them on.

Yesterday I bought a full set of lower door trims. I don't know yet how to install them, because my car doesn't have brackets for them, but I'll figure it out. As I'm going to change doors, there is nothing to lose or mess up. When it's done, then I'll remove the middle trim and Audi emblems from wings.

That S2 bumper is from sedan S2. Avant has the same one as sedan, but coupe bumper is different.

It's been a while since I updated my thread.

During the autumn I did some minor improvments to my car. So here we go:
Installed Philips BlueVision H4 bulbs to get rid of yellow light

After that I installed heated washer jets, but I can't still understand if they are working or not.

Then I went to local Audiclub meeting

As I'm planning to do 5x112 swap I decided to sell my winter alloys and currently I'm riding on steels with covers on them

And now I'm waiting for the spring to do the biggest improvment for my car - Quattro conversion. At the end of January I bought wrecked 2,3 B4 quattro. Engine doesn't work and chassis is unusable. The price was cheap and I have almost earned it back by selling the rest of the car in bits and pieces. So my plan is to take off all the quattro parts and fuel tank, cut off fastening pieces for quattro parts and install them to my car.

And I almost forgot, I will change the rear window too because of this:

Signed up because of this thread. the car really is good. I came across this thread when searching Google for modifications for my new 1993 saloon. I have the very same 2.0 ABT and that will be why i found the thread. The things you have done so far are great and its making me build my parts list for mine. I will definitely be doing the cruise control and hope i can pick your brain on how some of these parts go onto the engine as having this ABT engine seems a rarity.

Iv done a few bits to mine so far new front grill Mitsubishi gallant electric antenna and some nice new wheels plus new dials with computer on route. But after seing yours i want the CC air-con e.t.c.

Look forward to more updates on the car

              Stefan

                1.8T engine, quattro swap and 4x108 -> 5x112 conversion

Finally the spring came and I decided to start with my project. As I planned to do quattro swap I thought it was also time to find new power source, so I went to look for a new engine. At first I thougth that price of 1.8T will be out of my league because I got offers like 500-800 euros and it was way too expensive for me. When I almost lost hope to find engine that suits my budget I finally got offer for 270 euros. Yes, only 270€ for 1.8T engine and I got absolutely everything what donor car had under the hood. So I took a 200km trip to pick up engine and then 200km back.

                Some pics of new heart:

Because donor car had no A/C, I had to buy AC pump bracket for 1.8T. At least it wasn't hard to find.

Those parts I cut off from quattro chassis and now I need to weld them to my car:

                1)Rear diff front mount
                2)Propshaft mount
3)Mount for gearbox linkage, but I found out that it is already there underneath my car

Then I found 5x112 wheels for 80 euros. In my opinion those are suitable for B4:

And about two weeks ago I decided to dismount fwd parts and old engine:

At the moment car is just standing like this, because some parts I need for build are still missing and I'm looking for them:

Meanwhile I also built up one B4 with spare parts I had in my household. That car got my old 66kw engine and all fwd parts.
                Before:

                Half of job done:

                Ready to go:

It is now my daily driver till I finish my project. After that I will give it to my bro or wife, it depends on who gets licence first

I hope to update thread soon

Nice work, keep the updates and photos coming.

Just love the rear windscreen, why Audi didn't put this in S2 i do not know.

I will mount it behind bumper. Here is good example how to do:

2 days ago I took a screwdriver and started looking for shock mounts:

After that I dismounted fwd fuel tank:

So when quattro fuel tank was installed I had to look for rear subframe rear holes. Did the screwdriver trick again and guess what, holes were there and there were also thread inside of them.

So far quattro swap has been bolt-on:

Next thing to do is to weld propshaft bearing links and rear diff front mount. After that I can install rear diff, propshaft, gearbox and engine.

Very good! I expected the sedan to have the mounting points for the rear subframe after someone from Canada on here discovered it on an avant.

Would this also be the same for the C4 chassis?

Threads for rear subframe bolts are already there for early B4s. On later there's just a hole with no thread in it. Don't know year when this changed, but I guess it can be MY1994.

No. User on our local forum compared C4 FWD and Q side by side and there were some differences.

Good work! Always nice to see updates on this car

Some updates and what I have done so far

Because all parts were rusty, I decided to paint them:

Still need to paint brakes, rear anti-roll bar, driveshafts and propshaft. This time I will use yellow or bright green istead of red. Red is also nice, but I have had red brakes for 4 years already. I also noticed that front anti-roll bar is 26mm, same as S2.

Hardest part so far has been removing this part from chassis:

Had to drill and use other tools to get it apart. It would have been easier to cut it off, but I wanted to remove it in one piece.

A couple of days before I got one last missing gearbox bracket and then I removed broken ones and bolted on new brackets:

                              First shot with new engine:

Only had to swap left engine mount with B4 mount. All B4 R4 engines have suitable one: ABT, ABK, ACE. Right mount needed some drilling, because the B5 hole for engine bracket was too small. But it took only seconds to re-drill it to fit B4.

Then front bar below radiators needed some custom work. Problem was engine's first mount.

The other part which is welded to B4 bar is cut off from B5 1.8T cooler pipe.

                              Now it looks almost complete:

Also mounted ABS pump bracket to chassis. Before it was without ABS.

Still need to do some work, but I hope to drive it next month
