Yes it is legal until new engine fits within limits. Power limit is +30% compared to most powerful Audi 80 engine (128kw V6). So maximum legal power limit for 80 B4 is 166,4kw. Unfortunately they don't count S2 sedan/avant to same group although chassis is excatly the same B4. In my case 1.8T 110kw fits within limits with no problem. There are at least three 1.8T 80 B4 cars in Estonia, 2 sedans (1 quatto, 1 fwd), 1 avant and now mine is 4th (sedan, quattro).

Lucky one ! In Romania the new engine may not exceed 40% of the power that is already on the car ... I have 2.0 petrol (ABT) and have another on Competition Engine (ACE) that I can not mount ..only ADR (1.8 5V, non-turbo) is best option for me...

Interesting solution for front engine mount. We used mount from 2.0 engine, straight fit on 1.8T block and 2.0 w/ aircon crossmember.

Can you tell me what year B4 do you have. There are some differences, so after that I can give you more information

I know it is possible to do as long as you don't have AC. But I installed 1.8T AC bracket and pump. B4 AC bracket doesn't fit and B4 AC pump has different wheel for belt.
B4 AC bracket has also front engine mount, but B5 one doesn't have one. So thats why it needed other solution. Btw AC pipes are still the same as they were with ABT engine.

As I don't have much time for my project then it takes time to finish it. But here are some updates.

Painted some parts with black and yellow:

Found those taillights from scrappy when I looked for 1.8T wiring plugs below ECU box.

Here is wiring loom I made for engine swap:

Used NG engine loom as donor and those 4 plugs at left side (same plugs that I bought from scrappy) connect under ECU box. So I made plug and play solution.

Also installed 3-way connector between expansion tank, engine and radiator:

At the moment I'm strugling with immo. Hope to get rid of it in week or two.

A couple of weeks ago I had time to install intercooler and pipes:

I also cut holes to install headlight washers. B3 washer are perfect fit to S2 bumper. Before I had them on B4 bumper and they had large holes underneath them.

After ECU was reprogrammed to get rid of immobilizer it finally fired up

E: I don't know why video doesn't run in player

Coolant temp. gauge is now showing incorrect values, but from climate control unit I can see correct value of coolant temperature. So I must connect coolant gauge to CCU coolant sensor. After that I think it will show more trustable information.

That engine also has better alternator than my old engine had. Before headlights runned on 13,2V (already had relays installed), but now they get 14V. Difference in the dark is quite remarkable.

Now I have to finish quattro swap and then it is ready to go. At the moment I have to get rear diff front mount welded, but I can't find suitable machine for rent. Other option is to roll the car to the workshop which is 1km away from house, because it cant drive without fuel tank and tank has to be removed before welding.

About 2 weeks ago I got rear diff front mount welded and completed quattro swap. Finally the car is moving

Here are also 2 videos of first runs:

Still need to get exhaust welded and then I can drive it daily. At the moment I have done only those two runs on street, because there is too much noise without exhaust. Also had to remove some rust from brake discs after first run, because brakes didn't work well.

Also 5x112 swap is completed now. Hope to buy S2/S4/S6 Avus wheel for the next summer.

Last week I also had time to finish exterior and here is the result:

Now I am almost ready for next weekend to take part in local Audi club drag race.

Can someone tell why Throttle Body Adaption is needed? Does it make car respond better to throttle when driving?

Looks like I haven't updated in ages, so here I go:

                                08.2014
In August I had plan to take part in drag race but thing went other way because I didn't get wheel allignment service time before the event. Without it car was a bit nervous and the risk wasn't worth it.
In first week I also managed to pop off coolant hose behind the engine and finally after a good launch I destroyed plastic flange behind the engine because it hit old battery tray, which I already cut at first, but definetly not enough. Fortunately it happened near home and I was able to drive to home and trim it with angle grinder.
After couple of drives I made a trip with that green B4 (2.0 66kw) and it felt faster, so I decided to find out 0-100km/h time and it was 15 seconds Searched from web and found times like 8-9, so definetly something was wrong. At that time I didn't had boost gauge, so I wasn't able to see if it boosted or not.
Week later I found put that turbo inlet pipe was cracked, so I fixed it with duct tape and went for a test run. Car felt a lot better, but still wasn't quick enough.
A week later I finally got suitable front driveshafts and installed them. Before it was rwd for a couple of weeks and now finally quattro.

                                09.2014
In weeks excitment faded and car felt slow again. This time I decided to check timing marks and they were off a bit - maybe because engine was from crashed car. But then I made a huge mistake because someone had made a second mark on crankshaft pulley and it looked very similar to factory one. So I looked at wrong mark, put timing belt on and turned the key. And what happed - engine made half a turn and got stuck. After that I tried to set timing according to factory mark, but damage was already done and pistons had hit valves. After that I was really pissed off at AEB engine and wanted my old ABT back. Fortunatly we have some good people in our local community and I was able to get ADR engine head with everything inside for 30 euros.

                                10.2014
When engine was pulled apart I also found the real reason of being slow - WG flapper was stuck open, so it didn't build any boost at all. During rebuild I also cleaned turbo oil pipes because I had read that they might get stuck. Finally I removed oil pan and cleaned oil pump pipe and installed new gasket for oil pan too. Also installed boost gauge.

When I finally got it running it felt like a rocket. I drove only 1.5km that night and next day it was again slower. Reason was again turbo inlet pipe which I changed during the rebuild, because old one was already fixed with duct tape. So it was time to buy third pipe and hope for the best. So far it is one pice.

                                11.2014
Black ice arrived as winter got closer. Welded torsen and quattro felt very nervous and I decided to swap torsen with open one. Also the same week dual mass flywheel started to show signs of giving up. My bro helped me out to change flyheel, clutch and gearbox. It was hard to put gearbox back, but we finally made it and when the car was ready for drive I found out that I had put clutch throw-out bearing in wrong place. So it was time to get hands dirty again and lift gearbox a bit to put it in correct position. At the same time I also got rid of cat converter and after that car felt faster and boosted even more - before 0,4-0,5, after 0,7-0,8. Ecu is chipped.
Finally the long waited snow arrived and although I had lots of fun on open areas I had to admit that winter tires were quite ****** because it was impossible to drive on highway covered in snow over 50km/h.

                                12.2014
Bought brand new winter tires and night before christmas we got lots of snow, so I took a family trip with my wife and son to enjoy quattro on snow. Great experience and lots of fun made me finally enjoy my car after engine swap and quattro conversion.

                                01.2015
Without a reason steering pump died and spit oil over all engine bay. I found it when steering felt harder and harder after every turn. Managed to get new from scrapyard, but snow and cold made changing it very inconvenient because I was working outside - what a joy if you don't have your own garage.
Same weekend I also swapped out rear left tire rod and front shock top mounts with bearings.

                                02.2015
Went to local repair shop because muffler was quite loud and needed some welding.

                                03.2015
Car started to vibrate. I didn't matter if it was in gear or not, or if I pressed the clutch. First thing I found was right front brake, which went slightly on. Problem was rusted piston. But it still vibrated, especially when cornering. Changing the gearbox oil solved the problem for a couple of weeks. Before oil change I found out that front driveshafts were too long and possibly from c4. I had couple of 66kw b4 ones in corner and they were perfect fit. Last thing that needed replacing was one of the engine rubber mounts which was broken. After that I went to longest trip so far - 150km to capital and 150km back. Everyhing went quite well except car felt nervous on highway. Back at home I found the reason which were left front wishbone bushes. Altough I changed them 4000km ago they looked and felt like they were changed last century.

                                04.2015
Car started to vibrate horribly and it felt like rear diff wanted to get inside. Reason was rear outer cv-joint, which got stuck at some points and was hard to move between hands. New part solved the problem. Also installed summer tires and wheels and found out that they need balancing, because steering wheel starts to vibrate when speed exceeds 95km/h.

At the moment future plans are:
*brake upgrade - master cylinder 25.4mm, vented 288mm front brakes from b5/c5 and hopefully I can manage to source s6 c5/passat b5.5 w8 rear calipers and pair them with vented 269mm a8 d2 discs.
                                *clutch upgrade - 240mm disc

And if I might have more time:
*Swap out 4.11 gearbox and diff with 4.55 ones - in theory acceleration should be better, but top speed suffers. Is it worth a try?

Quite a long post, I should write more often
