  • My Coupe typ 89

    Hello everyone!

This is my first car - Audi Coupe 2.3 FWD
I bought it almost two years ago in actually poor condition. The side skirts were smashed, the front bumper was cracked, paint was ruined, some trim was missing in the boot..... etc But there was something about it... Maybe it was the sound of five pots, maybe something else.

    Some pics from previous owner

In first days I got better front bumper (it had a crack too but it was in better overall condition), installed fog lights, and tried to polish the paint

The time went and in November installed new shocks and springs on the front

The car was on steel wheels, there was something to do about that -

I got the wheels with these -

Because boot opener was broken I decided to install elecrtic one from ebay

    Installed missing boot trim too

Then there was time for upgrades in cockpit In winter I got my hands on instrument cluster with autocheck and board computer, new steering wheel and new type panel with airbag

I played with LED's in the cluster and now in the night it looks like this

And a few days ago installed new seats in front and back (much much better condition than old ones)

    and outside temperature display

There were many small things done that I can't remember now but the work never stops ...
In two or three weeks I am going to respray the car because the paint is very very poor.

    Thats it for now

I found some more pics of what else has been done to my coupe

        Working autocheck and board computer

Bumper grille made from 2 standard Audi 80 B3 bumper grilles

"New" transmission, because old one was starting to make very annoying noise while driving at any speed, and brand new clutch

Little bit more sound in the front

        And upgraded front grille

Today I wanted to just wash and clean my car so I took my "Box of many things"

BUT there was one thing I wanted to know - What will happen if I tried to polish my polyurethane paint on the car?
                      So I tried...

On the left side of pictures I did nothing but on right side you can see the result.

                      And finnaly washed my car

Some new things I have done

At last, it was time to put on new exhaust manifold, the old one had a crack on it, and it made annoying noise, I wanted to put new one on for a while, but there was no free time to do that. But 3 weeks ago I found time to do it.

I bought everything and started to work

Some bolts on intake were poor, so I used 45 torx and a hammer

After some time i managed to take off K-Jet

                        Old manifold

                        No manifold

                        New manifold with the cover

There is everything that was left from gaskets and old cover

                        Cleaned lower part of intake

                        And all back together again

I changed the oil filter, oil, many gaskets, and all the bushes and mounts on front suspension

Installed fully restored starter motor because old one started to work strange, it sort of worked but sometimes there was just a "click" and nothing else. Now it's like it should be - you turn the key and just drive

And last 2 weeks I am trying to finish interior re-trimming because old roof trim was starting to hang like a curtain

                        Cleaned and prepared the roof

                        The glue

                        After 6 hours

                        Sunroof

                        One of pillars

Tomorrow or so I hope to finish all the bits left and put this all back together (the roof and sunroof already re-installed)

                          Trimming looks great.
You should remove the engine and paint the engine bay to match the body.

What LEDs did you use for the instrument cluster?

Retrim looks really well done. Have you any details on how you tackled it as I suspect I will need to do my sunroof in the near future?

Led's are 5 and 3 mm red and 3 mm white. I don't remember what brightness they were but I used resistors to make it look good (not too bright not too dark). If there is an interest I could post pictures how I did it.

About engine bay.. I want to paint it, but I don't want to take the engine out for now.. If everything goes well than maybe I will put something more powerful than NG , and then paint it. For now it's ok.

About re-trim, I just took everything apart, removed old material and glue and then glued new one on. Glue was Glue no 88 (also called rubber glue or something like that) just put it on wait about 10 min and then put anything you want to glue on it.
