hi all, well I've finally got the car back after 3 and a half months of it being off the road waiting for parts and installs. It had been off the road longer then on it as far as my length of ownership went!
Long story short is that it's back on the road but what a journey!
Short story long is that I had to source a replacement gearbox and the best place to do it was from your end (the UK). There are only about 11 RS2's in NZ (http://www.vask.org.nz/index.php/topic,11103.0.html) so the spare parts bin is a little empty...
As luck would have it I found the brand new RS2 box Steve was selling thread and thought all my xmas's had come at once. Unfort I got to the end of the thread and it had sold a few weeks before I needed it (and it had been on there for years! Arrggggh!!)
I contacted Steve and asked him if there was a chance if the new owner would sell it on. Steve asked and the answer was a firm no.
But Steve did say he knew of another 2nd hand box. So the long journey began. The amount of leg \ phone \ email work Steve has done on my behalf is phenomenal! He sourced the box, chased up, chased up again, got it to a gearbox specialist, chased up again, chased up again, checked and then air freighted (at cost) to New Zealand!
STEVE HAS BEEN AMAZING! AND I OWE HIM BIG TIME!
Unfortunately when the box turned up at this end and was fitted it had problems. Audi Wellington pulled it apart and found it had been reassembled incorrectly by the UK guys who pulled apart, checked and put it back together giving the all clear. (in their words the bolt holding 5th in place had come loose and caused movement \ issues). They examined and nothing major had worn (within specs they said) and its all back together.
1 gearbox removal , rebuild and install more than I had wanted but happy to have it back on the road.
Steve is now chasing the UK gearbox guys for answers and maybe some $$ - AMAZING HE'S STILL GOING!
So basically, my cars back on the road thanks to Steve and I'm so grateful! And he's still doing things on my behalf!
Thanks so much Steve and I can't thank you enough! Thank you , thank you, thank you!!!
Car is due back in on Monday to get brakes skimmed but hopefully after that I can just concentrate on driving (and enjoying) the damned thing!
- Gearbox in and it's nice to have 1st back and hopefully a long future with this box!
- AC working is awesome (condenser)
- new gear knob is nice and flash
- new badges are shiny
- new accelerator pedal is awesome
- haven't noticed any increase in power from the diaphragm replacement but it has been 3 odd months! (Audi said it's all better now)
History.
