    New toy?

Nice feeling, much more than i expected, even if no extras added(front diff lock, long travel suspensions).
Only factory rear diff lock and some big tires, nice profile but not simex.
The car feels as a bus compared to my ex samurai but i like it.
Anyone has info on 2.8 td engine? The problem with it is the glow plugs,it runs 3 with 3 and it has a function of running glows after engine is started for a short period. Now plugs just work only when starting.

And another question...some source of gps maps good for offroad?as you see iphone igo does not help

I have info on the 2.8 td engine (RD28)! The most important info about it! It can be swapped directly for a Skyline engine (RB25DET)! And the rest of the car handles it easily!

          Good info
Here users prefer na engines(BM v12,and all v8 and v10 audi ones).I think this is the way to go.Never have boost leak problems, never watch afr and egt.Just watch the road.
But this td is good enough for my purpose.I need low rpm torque.
A big NA petrol engine does not cover my needs of traveling and camping in wild terrain with limited fuel carrying capacity.

            Nice- like older Patrols
Aside from my longterm 5 pot Audi coupe relationships, I have been having a torrid affair with not one, but 2 Hiluxes (Mk3, Mk4) Have a good winter!

The RBs are actually more economical than the RD28 if driven without boost. Not to mention that you can LPG them. And NA V engines are hard to fit in a Patrol because of the narrow chassis rails Much more expensive to retrofit such a big engine

But still, the RD28 diesel units are also pretty reliable especially if you don't overheat them, because it's bye bye head then

The diesel having more torque is a myth, a stock turboed RB25DET probably has more torque then a RD28

It is not how much fuel costs it is how much fuel you can carry. This small diesel running at low rpm seems to me the the only way of spending days in the field with engine running, and stopped only when you do not need anything from your car(heat, electricity, etc).
It is more encouraging to spend half day passing 1km rough terrain and gathering logs for fire when you do not worry about fuel.
This will not be a competition car. This will carry all you need to survive in the terrain for a number of days and watch the magnific landscape that all of us tend to see only at tv.
