    MOT - No advisories

The old girl went straight through the MOT yesterday with no advisories and no prep work.

Thought the rear tyres and the cracked headlight would fail it but neither did.

Alex sent me a replacement headlight unit a few months ago, so I had that fitted to tidy it up along with some new grommits to hook the underlight trim bits back where they should be. Have some spare if anyone needs one or two.

Everything is basically sorted now on this car apart from the box. Think I will be getting it reconditioned fully or I might buy a cheap replacement 5 spd box and have that totally reconned to replace the existing one which can be kept for similar in the future as more power upgrades will undoubtedly come in time as there always seems to be a brake horse power deficit in my life

    Nice one
I'd get another decent 3B box and rebuild that. The 01As are loads cheaper to rebuild than the 01E pretty much all the bearings are commercially available.
Make sure you get the right box code, the n/a boxs are different, loads shorter gearing and the V6 box has the wrong final drive too.

      Testimony to the build quality.

      Nice one Alex.

Yep, that is deffo the way to go. I am going to drain the oil and see what is floating around in it first. If it looks proper grotty, I will put a wanted ad up. If not, I might replace the oil and see how it responds. My gut feeling says it is well on the way out though, which makes sense in terms of years and mileage (23yrs and 158k miles)

New oil always helps, it will be running in the factory oil still no doubt.

I get the feeling that "educating" a Jag F Type on the M40 the other day has not helped the cause. Fortunately it wasn't an "R" or it might have been me getting educated.

Will see how new oil goes and report back.

Always a good feeling when the ride slides through MOT (or EU test as we call it over here, even though we're not a part of the EU) with no remarks.

Surprised that it passed with cracked headlight, though. That would have been a no-go in these parts.

I thought the same but the guy said as long as it doesn't affect the beam alignment, it is ok. I still am not convinced as surely it could let water in?

Any ideas on the best possible gearbox oil to try in this 5 speed?
