I have been digging about on the forum but most of the Porsche 996 caliper posts are about members with the S2 and not the S6. I need some practical experience from members who have experienced the difference between the standard S6 HP2 and the 996 calipers or from anyone who just knows the difference. I am thinking of going down the 996 caliper route to save weight on each front corner and hoping the 996 calipers with give more feel and more powerful braking..Your thoughts appreciated!!
Apparently Alex the cast iron HP2'S are extremely heavy.I haven't personally handled any but have been told from someone who has. Whilst at his workshop i handled some 986? that he has on his Ur Quattro under the standard 15 wheels and i was gobsmacked at how light they were. I have a pair S2 G60's here and they must weigh 3-4 times heavier than front 996. Worse for me the G60's are lighter than my HP2's. I am aware there is an alloy version of the HP2 used on the B5 S4. would you say 996 calipers are no better in braking performance over the Hp2's? Whatever i end up with must fit under the standard 17" plus speck speedlines pictured here.
Not worth the piss about/cost if you ask me,HP2s when in good nick take some beating. They aren't light but perform very well on track when in good nick.Unless you get the calipers almost given its gonna be ÂŁ400 at least to save about 8 or 9kg.Might be worth looking into the alloy ones though,I have a feeling they have a different fitment though
iirc JP still had hp2s on at about 470/500bhp and said they were fine
Ally ones are different fitment, but quite easy to fit on the UFO strut. With the S4 B5 321mm disc they need 2mm shimms between the caliper and hub.

Would this spacer be needed if fitting to an S6 hub carrier with the HP2 brakes? Is the B5S4 alloy caliper a direct replacement for the steel HP2 caliper?
Chris
Don't know about spacer but the alloy hp2 on the b5 S4 is not a direct replacement on the S6.
So C4 S6 that has standard HP2 brakes has a different mounting than B5S4 with alloy HP2 calipers & are not a bolt-on option? Sorry to go on about this but want to understand fully.
Chris
The C4 UFO strut is different than the C4 HP2 strut. On the UFO strut it's quite easy to fit the B5 HP2 calipers and discs. There is no carriers, the caliper fitting are solid on the strut/hub structure. You have to cut off the third fitting point, bore the bolt holes from 12mm to 14mm and add the 2mm spacers. Then you have to grind of some material from the hub, to fit the 321x30mm brake disc over it.

Yes, the B5 has a totaly different offset, and they are not P&P on the on the C4. If you want to do a conversion and using C4 HP2 calipers you need to use the C4 discs. And if using the B5 S4 HP2 calipers you need to use the B5 discs.

It's not a worthwhile swap, I had 996's on my old S2 and put HP2's on my old UrS4. I wouldn't bother.
As for a weight saving, seeing as an S6 weighs about 40 tonnes already I'd doubt you would notice much difference.
I had Panamera calipers over HP2 struts, and now having Cayenne's if you want an easy job.i did nothing on the struts.everything is almost bolt right up.
the disc is 360mm from A8.i have been posted some threads around here.
