Yes, I agree with you both, good points made. To be honest if power was high up the priority list it would indeed have been an S2 I went looking for. This is more of an aesthetically-focussed project without ruling out the option of a power hike in the future - but only when the rest of the car has reached the kind of standard I'll be happy with.

But it's good to know there are options :-)

The rims have arrived!!! CR 85 and 95. 17" 8.5 and 9.5, 4x100, et30 all round. Proper German 90s wheel. They've got the period look I'm after, with some nice dish, especially on the 9.5 rears. A bit like TSW Hockenheim, if anyone remembers those from back in the day!

They need a bit of work before they go on, as well as new rubber. Refurb and a redrill to 4x108 (they have flat hub faces so it's a safe option), some centre caps (which are probably like rocking horse sh*t), spigots to drop the bore to 57.1, then we're good to go.

I'll trial fit them and see what I need regarding spacers (of which I'll only use the likes of H&R / Eibach) and tweak the ride height once I've got some KW coilovers. I'm going for the low and wide look, so the 9.5s will certainly help there!

Hopefully I don't have to mess with the arches too much to achieve the stance I want - I certainly don't want to be messing with the arch liners whatever happens. If I can get away with a gentle roll so I can gain a little bit more room but keep the arch liners that will be ideal.

I'm not going to rush to get these on, I know from experience of owning some really low VWs and Audis that it's a job that needs doing properly in every aspect in order to avoid complications in the future (like rubbing, fouling etc). So any arch work, spacers, tyres, will be quality work with quality components.

If anyone can help me source some genuine centre caps it would be appreciated. Failing that I'll have to get some fabricated.... £££... oh well.

Can't wait to get those ugly 18s off!

      Here's some pics:

        Very nice looking car mate.

The new wheels look a little like Brock. Looking forward to seeing them fitted

Where are you from by the way?

Thanks mate :-) Yeah they have a nice dish like B1s, and I've always loved the y-spoke design, so these are win win for me.

Can't wait to see them fitted myself! All in good time.

I'm based in north notts / south yorks.
