    Gods own country Wales.

Our 2.6 Avant in the beautiful Brecon Beacons. The avant did 650 miles on the road trip in the last few days almost as much as it's entire mileage of 700 miles in the last 12 months.

These were the type of views that greeted us on our way up through South Wales, late saturday afternoon, before we stopped in at Kits for a cuppa and a natter.Tea was great and welcome and Kits facilities are almost as good as the stunning slice of heaven he lives in. Seriously jealous mate!! And the car aint bad either.
    Seriously impressed

That would be the road from the reservoirs to Penderyn, eh?
A fab bit of road that Clarkson and his mob have used over the years.
I was on the straight bit that you can see to the left of photo last week,(Brecon-Cardiff) but unfortunately in the company pick-up, not the Audi

I don't know South Wales at all just the North so i can't say i know where Penderyn is.I should have mentioned we travelled up the A470 from jct 32 M4 on our way to Rhyl/Ruddlan. Its a shame as we lost the light after a bite to eat in Builth Wells but we certainly felt the tight hairpin bends on the 483.Shame it was dark.

The bit where we are parked is the A4059 at Cefn Crew going by the map, there's a big welsh stone turret on the left turn if you know it. Its stunning around this area. Can't wait to go back again and explore it better. That straight bit you mentioned is a long way away and you can just make out some cars on it. Like you i want to go back there in the S6 to really enjoy the roads.

Yep,that's it- the 4059. About 1/2 mile after the stone bridge between the 1st and 2nd reservoirs. Next time, follow the A4059 towards Penderyn/Hirwaun for 4 or 5 miles, and enjoy

Ps, If you can't avoid the sheep on that road- at least take some Mint Sauce with you

I don't think the Welsh roads can be beaten in the Uk. I only got this one and one at Kits place looking at the wye but thats private. Post up a couple or three of yours if you have stills.

                      Cheers Mark,.

It was great to meet you and your family, you were all very welcome to drop in for refreshments especially after the distance you'd travelled.

Glad you enjoyed the driving and scenery around my part of the world, there's many truly great roads in this area as folks like Sonic will attest to, you can have an awesome days driving without leaving a 60 mile radius of Builth Well's. Top Gear used to film a lot of road test's around here.

I have to say though as outstanding as the roads and country side are in Wales, IMO the very finest driving roads in the UK are in highlands of Scotland, it's a bit like Wales on streriods. That said the's a couple of spots in north Wales that are really very simalar, however in Scotland there are stretches of glorious twisting super grippy tarmac (they get better surfaces) with no hedges that go on for dozens of miles at a time. Mind you it's all 500 miles away! At least it's still in the same country thank God!

Indeed, i've got some fantastic hooning routes all over wales, whether day-trips, 2 or 3 days... twisty B-roads, fast sweeping A-roads, lakes, mountains... you name it, it's there and all within easy reach

Yeah that's the great thing about Wales, it's a whole lot more accessable than the land of Haggis and firey gold water.

wales would have been even more accessible had the snp won the independence vote and got our big barbed wire fence erected!!
