    URS6 Auto

As requested by a member that loves the URS6, here is my newest S6.

I bought a manual S6 with the intention of letting the missus use it as her car but the clutch was to heavy for her so that plan went out the window

I stumbled across this car on ebay, it was a late car with Plus spec which was what I was after and it was an auto!!! i've never owned an Auto but thought it would be ideal for the missus.

Anyway me and a mate set of at 3am to go and collect it. The weather was nice until we got to within 30 miles of our destination. We viewed the car in the pouring rain and the paintwork looked lovely but when I got it home and it dried out you could see there were lots of imperfections. That doesn't worry me to much as its going to be a daily car so it will get some battle scars.

The previous owner thought the dash looked better with a double din radio/sat nav unit which obscured the climate controls and left no space for the dash switches (amazingly it passed a MOT 2 weeks previous with no hazard, foglight switch etc )
I wasn't to worried about this as I had a Delta head unit to fit the car what annoyed me was the butchered passenger side dash

I have done lots to the car already so when I get time I will show you what ive done

I wonder who that member was?

It's looking much better now without that strange dash adornment! Much nicer with the delta now in place.

    Looking forward to your updates.

      I wonder

Had my air con guy look at all my cars this week, both my S6's had no gas in but amazingly the S4 which im scrapping had gas (got the S4 engine running yesterday and the air con did blow cool air )

On my Auto we found a loose pipe. I removed the bumper thinking I could just tighten it and all would be well (actually remove the union, fit new "o"ring and refit) Well nothing is that simple is it. The union went tight before the pipe did Luckily all I had to do was clean both threads and it went tight Looks like the radiator has been replaced as I saw a sticker with made in Taiwan!!! Thought I better check the rest of the pipes and im glad I did, nearly every union was loose
Hopefully I will have working climate now

It's such a shame we cannot get round the problem of the damaged left lower dashboard.I looked into that and then realised it's a new dash to get rid of unsightly marks/holes.

It's sods law the breaking car had perfect aircon. Just perfect!

I wonder why all the unions were loose? Must have been so frustrating but great to know where the problem lies. It's great to see a mirror image of my car on here and it will help spur me on with mine Shaun.

ive got the dash from the S4 I could use but not sure if it will fit as mines got passenger airbag?

All the air con pipes seem to be new, there is paperwork to confirm. I would think whoever fitted them should change there profession

Still got things like changing auto box oil and filter, rear diff seal to do. im gunna renew all the suspension bushes.

The copper brake pipe unions are rounded so i'll be replacing them.

Ive pressure washed under the car, just need to remove the wheel arch liners and rub down any surface rust, treat it and schutz it

Luckily the lower dash is black because you can patch it with some plastic epoxy (and maybe some glassfibre mesh on the back of the big hole), creatively creating some texture while the epoxy is curing, then sanding a bit and painting with black oil-based paint and fine sponge.

A few updates but no pictures.

The air-con is now charged and working Trouble is it would only blow hot air. A quick bit of research showed it was probably the temperature flap motor, which it was. I had a spare from the S4 im breaking so I fitted it and now it all works

Now a bit of help is required again The passenger side footwell is wet, (not sure about drivers side, haven't looked under that carpet) are there any common places where the A6/S6 leak from? Car hasn't got a sunroof so not the drain tubes pretty sure its not heater matrix. There are no obvious grommets missing from the bulkhead.
The car has had a new windscreen in its lifetime and the lower N/S edge is starting to rust, could it be from there? That leads me to my next question, the windscreen has a few bad chips. Would the S4 windscreen fit? I was hoping it will then I can remove the screen, deal with the rust then refit the S4 screen.

                yes screen is identical

certainly possible for it to be leaking where its rotting, never had any leaks on c4s myself

                  Cheers Buddy

Looks like another job to add to the list
Ive soaked up the water/foam under the carpet, thing is we have had loads of heavy rain and it hasn't got wet again it might only leak when im driving in rain but I haven't done that since I started drying it out!

Cambelt in the process of being done, the usual water pipes have been replaced.
The old pipes were very brittle

suspension parts from the S4 im breaking have been put in the de-rusting solution i use.

This is what they look like after a couple of weeks, they have gone back in for another week then they will be getting a coat of paint. New wheel bearings and bushes fitted and then fitted to the S6 unless my research unearth's it wont fit.

Can you give us some details about the derusting solution you use? Does it deteriorate the rubber in the bushes?

it is supplied by a company called safetyclean (they do parts wash systems, dispose of waste oil filter etc) you have to sign up to a contract to get it but if you know the delivery driver you can get it, if you get my drift

It doesn't do any harm to rubber (i havent fitted any suspension bits to a car yet to see if it weakens the rubber over time) It is advisable to wear glove when using it but is environmentally friendly.

Its got a 1-9 parts water dilution rate.

Im really happy with it, it makes parts look like new.

Great pictures and progress there Shaun. I never gave the hoses a thought TBH so seeing your post is timely! Did you happen to have some hose bits lying around to use that would be my guess? I ask as i know audi are ridiculously expensive on rubber hoses. Great work there Shaun and the "special brew" alc 9% content.
I could do with a tin now.
