I bet the sill is a mess too when you get in there. Bad repair previously, I have a similar issue on my coupe, albeit not as advanced as yours.
I would get the new panels and do a thorough job, it is an RS2 after all
AFAIK genuine panels are galvanised and e-coated. Don't think the shells were dipped after welding as they always rust on the post welds where the zinc was burnt away.
Take it to Ish at Quattro Coachworks and then you don't need to worry about it again

I'm not an expert in any way, except I'm old therefore have seen a bit here and there, is my only 'qualification'.

I'd sell this blue one and buy a nicer silver RS2 if I was you.

I tend to agree with VDT, and also Error.

So ask Ish to do the work and 'let' some new metal in to replace the rusty metal. Obviously first having Ish determine the extent of the repair necessary given the skim of filler.

If he does the repair, with all the best practice rust proofing the repair should outlast you.

Cut off the whole of a rear quarter panel is too invasive for the amount of rust I feel. You'd have to line up the new queer panel and also it is next to impossible to duplicate the oem factory welding and rust proofing. Doing with a localised repair you only have to 'worry' about the local area.

But at the end of the day, your car, your choice.

Either way continue to post your progress on this thread for the rest of us with no RS2 to spend money on and enjoy.

      Kind regards.

I have to agree with this.

Nearside and offside refer to the kerb/edge of road, rather than to the driver, so for RHD, left side is the nearside to the kerb, right side is offside. As such, whether LHD or RHD, if a vehicle is being driven on the "correct" side of the road (i.e. hasn't been exported to another market), drivers side=offside
