Inspiring stuff indeed, great write up and a damn good effort from Kit.

Kit, can you tell me what you did to prep the flywheel please?

Thanks for all the positive comments chaps.

Nuvo, After an initial clean with a brass wire wheel on a drill I prepared the flywheel with small sections of 40 grit sanding belt cut with a rounded end so it would reach the outer edge and a lot of elbow grease. I use a circular motion and systematically work my way around until all traces of glaze are removed then degrease in situ with brake cleaner prior to installing the clutch.

The dust isn't something one wants to inhale so I use a hoover to suck it up every few minuets.

Choosing which flywheel to use caused a great deal of pontification, the one Charlie has left over from his project car has done more miles but as far as we know hasn't had multiple hard launches inflicted upon it.

In the end I got them both on the bench side by side, checked the surfaces with a straight edge and bright light and compared the amount of slack. I stuck with original as it felt marginally better and is totally flat, the other has a very slight imperfection which would require proper resurfacing to remove though it would be fine to use as it is.

Many thanks Kit. I'll be sure to follow your guide the next time I come to change the clutch as this is something I neglected to do the last time.

Here was the challenge facing me and my clutchless RS2, looks fairly straight forward from above, but I promise you it's more difficult than it looks:

That garage door isn't much wider than the car (no animals were harmed...):

The garage door runners have clearly, from the outset, been designed using the most sophisticated CAD technology available in the early 1980's to cause maximum paint removal damage should car and runner meet. Never fun when backing in your ~£20k pride and joy. Add 1000% extra scariness when attempting with no clutch, I'm really quite keen to stress this factor:

            It's in.

I'd take a picture of the car half in half out, but of course I can't open the bloody doors!!

I hate performing this manoeuvre, everytime, no matter how practiced I am at it. I lightly scuffed the lip of the wheel arch on the other car... HAD TO PAINT THE WHOLE DAMN WING!!!

              PMSL!!!

Yep, your garage door way seriously sucks perhaps we should look at widening it when I give you a hand with your car port later this year.

I line it all up, reverse out straight. Switch off, get out... push it in...

For getting in... unlock, open door a crack, pull car out - once far enough yank handbrake on quickly to stop it running away...

That's crazy!!! The lengths we go to...

Anyway, where was I... Back to my problems!! As my locking wheel nuts are an issue, I'm replacing them with regular nuts. If I were to find just my wheels had been robbed off my RS2, that would just be mental!! So I ordered 4 OEM nuts @ £4.20 inc VAT and 1 Porsche nut @ £9.00(!!) inc VAT just to see the difference:

Always an interesting read you post Charlie. Can't beat a dash of humour!

Great to see your other RS2's gaining love and attention. Have you ever thought about fitting a (cough) tow bar to this RS2 and towing project mental wheels with..

Nearly forgot.. great work Kit.. top man.

F*ck all mate! Porsche nut weighs 18.362g; OEM nuts weigh between 18.479g - 18.639g, nothing in it, go for the cheapies, who's gonna see 'em? I don't have a mass spectrometer to hand so can't tell you anything about composition, not do I have any data on wear or tensile strength.
