Yeah it was, been trying to work out who it was behind me for a while. Hardy said he had seen your car about (he has a black fiat coupe turbo). Yours was v quick too, what have you done to it?

      Audi S2 vs Fiat Coupe

Hi Greg, nice to hear from you

I've done quite a few bits to the car, engine wise, basically 'was' a hybrid turbo, unichip, front mounted intercooler water injection and fast road cams etc

Since then I blew my turbo on a trackday at Bedford 4 weeks ago, so only just uprated that to a nice roller bearing unit.

At the time , she was putting out 325bhp and 310 lb/ft at 1.3 bar, but I had it down to 1.2 bar when I met you as my car was cold . I think she's probably over 350bhp now, but won't find out till I get a power run done.

You have a very nice car Greg , surely its not standard is it?, please don't tell me otherwise I'll be disappointed.

      Joe

Those wee cars are quick alright - being MUCH lighter than an S2 gives them that edge with similar stock power figures. However - try the traffic light grand prix on a wet day and see why the S2 will grin with its 4-wheel traction... Cornering limits on the S2 are also inherently better than the Fiat by way of the quattro factor.

For me personally the Fiat is a little small and not as attractive as the S2. I also prefer German build quality to Italian... though strangely if I ever win the lotto I would be shopping for a prancing horse instead of a Porker.

As for mods - its my understanding the Fiat Coupe Turbo boys go down the boost controller route - despite running a very similar Motronic system to the S2. Guess they don't have any resident ECU experts that can show them the way with decent remaps.

Hi Paul, you rightly point out one of the main disadvantages of the Coupe, FWD, in the dry, I don't have any trouble getting the power down in the straight, but on track, pulling hard out of tight corners like hairpins is difficult without getting wheelspin.

The Coupe has a LSD as standard, so other corners are fine, and particularly longer flowing corners are the cars strength.

There are a numner of plug and play chips for the Coupe, but I have gone down the route of unichip mapping on top of a Novitec chip, this is really for more power and reliability.
There is not a lot of expereince in other ECU choices, with just MOTEC being used on a couple ,but it is very expensive so only for the committed with deep pockets!

I would like to say the Coupe is as reliable as an Audi, but agree that little things seem to go wrong, and some of the quality of materials ,...still its Italian, very fast and unusual, so that's good enough for me

Theres a yellow one in Hemel that goes around, really low mileage and it smokes like a pig!!! Its terrible and its done less than half the mileage my car has! (im on 161k and engine runs sweet!)

I quite like them, have been out in a mates a few times and they're nice but they def dnt seem as reliable or durable as the Audi!

its the turbo that will smoke rather than the engine , a good hybrid is under £500 though

There is also a 4cyl 16v turbo on those. About the same engine as in the holy 'grale.
