    My S2 gets a makeover

Up to now all my time and effort has gone into making my S2 project car go faster and handle better. As such it has about 91KW and 180 Nm more than when I got it ... and that was before the new turbo! :mischeif:

I recently had some time to take the car to my local panel shop (Giulio Sabbatini) to give it a bit of an makeover while I was waiting for parts from Vagparts (BTW Fedex has managed to lose the package so I am still waiting! )

I had the car colour coded, RS2 mirrors fitted and bonnet vents made to reduce under bonnet temps. I think it looks a lot better - what do you think?

This is what my car looked liked when I got it (after a good polish and wax):

    This is it now!

and here a pic of the bonnet vents - they work brilliantly - you can feel the heat coming out of them (you can probably grill some meat in the heat) and the under bonnet temps are much lower!

Nice paint job. I bet you need the grilles to reduce temperature in your climate. We could do with some of your heat ( and Rustenburg wine )

        Great looking car there!
        Another well loved S2!!

The vent looks discreet as well, im assuming they are just louvre's in the bonnet?

This might be a silly question, but do bonnet vents not cause an issue in terms of water ingress into the engine bay?

Looks good mind, I like the black strip along the sides!

@David - so we share 2 passions! Audi's and Rustenburg Reds

@S2_Ant - yes, they cut the vents out of the bonnet (with a bit of fancy welding involved)

@Bibby - as the vents are there to get air out, you won't get water through them while driving. I guess you can get some water in while it is standing - but then I must just park the car undercover - anyway, we won't see rain for the next 6 months in any case

@Bibby - I have seen some people spray the rubber at the bottom of the door, but we thought that won't last too long - I was a bit worried about the black stripe but it seems to have turned out fine.

I've found they don't store well. I had a case which was 3 years old and had gone bad.

                  I should have drunk it!

I am looking at painting the flexible strips on my car as the bumpers have gone white at the back and the sills need painting. It seems like a good idea. The strips are not brilliant and so it would not be a great loss. I will probably buy a new set for stock.

You could always put a plate under the vents which has a little drain on it to catch the water. Then again when you are driving the rain gets in any way!

@Jamo - nope, that is a stock S2 (1995 ABY) bumper. It does look very different colour coded

If that stock then the S2 bumper in other countries must be different.

As you dont have the headlight spray washer on the bumper which is standard on european S2's

Maybe with south africa having such a hot a dry climate, they thought the headlamp washers to be overkill? and just fitted the version without them.
Lets face it ! headlamp washers are overkill here never mind SA thats why mine are disconnected

I love it. I'm not sure but I think I like the stock S2 bumper (color coded) better than the RS2 one. Is your hood stock? If so are those vents pounded out or added on the top? I have been conti plating hood vents as well.
