trip to schotland for: 474 BHP / 479 lbf-ft on the RR, and Knockhill track event

    Hi lads,

Thursday me and the missus were in schotland @ Dougal's & Mihnea with the S2 to do some laps on Knockhill and to have the car on the RR. This was really fun. Had to buy 2 new tyres before going on the track, the canvas came through. And I needed to put some new pads on the front. So 2 new pirelli's on the front were fitted by the experts.....Kwik-fit Then immediatly on the track. Had a smaal problem with the catchtank return line. This was ripped so I spilled some oil
Back home I just fitted the torsen rear diff. That really made things interesting. Coming out the corners and hitting the throttle releasing almost 700 NM did make the back end slide happily. Excellent controlable aswell.

Team MRC made a statement there on the track Dougal, Mihnea and me. At least on the loudest cars and probably on the fastest

Friday morning we went to the RR @ Star performance. This was the result:

This was the run with an apexi filter stuck directly on the turbo.
It made more torque with it, but in higher rpm it became more restrictive. Also the peak torque started 300 RPM later with the filter.
So the apexi is to small for my setup.

On both runs the there was a bit of ecu retarding, wich we never had on the road before.....Maybe its because UK gas is 97 and Dutch gas is 98 octane? Also at 6000 RPM the heatsoak struck. Sadly, if it would remain its effeciency it probably had 500+ HP. Although not a bad result. The boost kick in fiercely, and both hands are needed to keep it in a straight line

            Thanks!
Yes Raymor had his camera with him. And there were **** loads of other people with camera's. So we need to source some pics and vids

Raymor will sort the vids out asap. When he gets back from a trip.

Impressive figures, but that torque profile is rather peaky - presumably cos thats how you want it - how does it drive with such a torque spike.

I'd have expected a much smoother transition after peak torque... Did Mihnea tell you why the mapping produced such an output - I guess you are close to the edge of what your turbo & intercooler can do and that's why the spike is so apparent ?

Then again - it may be heat soak on the rollers which is preventing the engine from maintaining higher torque after the spike... Perhaps you don't feel such a spike when driving the beast ?

Yes the spike is becasue of ecu retarding. The ecu retarded the timing resulting in the unusual spike. On the road tough, theres no retarding at all. And the power peak is not there. Its just one long peak to the readline

OK - Cool then - or not so on the rollers huh... Just noticed the ambient air temp on your plots which cannot have helped at all.

This is where logged in gear acceleration runs with VAG-COM can be used to more accurately show the power delivery at the wheels. I'm assuming you have access to such spreadsheets - Dougal and I swapped some Excel sheets on this ages ago - I have forgotten the maths now.

.... by far the sweetest sounds on the track and the acceleration looked awesome - sufficient for a 'G' suit perhaps

I've got some video, but it's a little disjointed and needs to be edited before posting. I'll do it asap... but that might have to be in a fortnight depending on how much peace and quiet I can scrounge before the weekend.

The MRC cars were very impressive and it looked like a blast.

Might even tempt me to the Star organised trackday in September... we'll see!
