Don't ever drive or buy a 3.2 tt or a3 with the manual gearbox, horrid drive, drove a few quite a bit and it's all out of sorts with the pwer delivery/clutch/gear change relationship.
Couldn't overhaul a TT225

You'll get bored with paddle shift eventually!
DSG might seem good now, but wait for cars with ZeroShift to start hitting the scene in a few years. DSG still causes a drop in acceleration during shifts, ZeroShift does not...
I can't believe a 225hairdresser's car can outpace the S2, it hasn't happened to me yet!!! Not sure if a 3.2 has tried it on, none of the TTs I've met have challenged me so far. I have given a 3.2 A3 a fright though, with the existing engine.

ZEROSHIFT
I dont have a clue what it is, but I can guess and it sounds good
But even though it will make driving easier, at the same time won't it make it slightly more boring too???Comment

It's tough to explain - it replaces dog engagement rings with small "bullet" like objects mounted in hubs. These bullets engage in a similar fashion to dog teeth, but half can be engaged to one gear and half to the other - effectively in two gears at the same time.
The angles on the bullet faces allow the first engaged set to bite with the next higher gear, and the angles on the set still engaged to the lower gear will force them across to the higher gear as they catch up with the back face of the dog teeth on the lower gear. If you can get hold of a copy of last month's Racecar Engineering you'll get a proper explanation.
It's most likely to get used with paddle shifts and electronic controls to soften the shock load of each change, in racing applications and possibly the luxury market, but theoretically it can be used with conventional manual shifters.
The result of all this mullarky is a gearshift with no acceleration loss. That's the key advantage, not ease of use but a flat acceleration curve. Nothing else can achieve this - no auto boxes, no conventional semi-autos, and not even DSG or other dual clutch systems.
The system hack is a TVR with plenty of power, so it can take the punishment.
ZeroShift is still in it's infancy so it will be a while before we see it used extensively, but I will be keeping an eye on it!

Wow! Good explanation Kitten
Excuse my ignorance on my next question, but, does this mean that there is no clutch

@ Dan, I would not get too upset with the TT, it may well have been chipped or something and then that would make it much harder to overtake....
Cheers.

My mate has a stock 225TT and my stock S2 beasts it :mischeif:Originally posted by Fat Audi 80@ Dan, I would not get too upset with the TT, it may well have been chipped or something and then that would make it much harder to overtake....

He is now planning to chip it plus extras (already had a 3" exhaust fitted to ready it for the chipping). His chip will take it to 265BHP, but less torque than a chipped S2, so I am gonna get mine chipped without telling him, then **** myself when he still can't stay with me

Sounds like a smart move!!!
It's a fair point, a chipped TT will be a bit harder to kick - but it still looks like a hairdresser's car...
@ Scouser - you'll still need the clutch for moving away from standstill, but shifts are clutchless.

It definitely was a 225 and not a 3.2 - it had none of the different bodystyling clues.
Remember I was behind him, not alongside hiim, at each set of lights, so he was always getting a roll on before I was able to, but I'm sure I should have been able to out torque him. The car is clearly not running right, I must change the lambda sensor, but I'm starting to suspect a mild boost leak now.
How long have "they" got to send me a fine from a GATSO before I can stop worrying?

Whilst they are supposed to send a letter of intent to prosecute within two weeks, technically they can still go after you months later. Sorry!!!

Aah, with my lambda probe replaced, I can happily report that I came across another TT225 on the South Circular yesterday, again around Wandsworth. He was in a serious rush, pulling off some rather risky moves IMHO. But, and here's the good bit, he was toast. He had nothing on the mid-range torque of a fully armed and operational S2 battlestation
I have returned to the dark side
