great cars mine has 247,000 on the clock and going strong ........As above check suspension ....igntion key switch are always ones to go so check that(play in the key part does not return properly when starting screws starter motors) ,rear brake calipers sieze if not used often ,check the fan motor out through the different speeds i have just replaced the brushes in mine (nice job)..Check all boost hoses and make sure engine is clean as most boost loss on these engine equals dirty engine bay

No, as VAG don't single source anything. There are numerous suppliers throughout the world who are OEM. Saying European actually narrows it down a bit.

Fair enough.. I have to say I don't buy many parts but my original £600 off-the-top-of-my-head figure came from remembering the rough cost on the VAGParts site (£398) for the bits. Quite happy to be wrong though!
