My brother is thinking of buying one of these.
It has 100k miles on the clock and full service history.

Any hints and tips as to what he should spacifically look out for on this model?

    Thanks,
    JB

JB, I normally have a read on parkers, usually can get a few tips from there.

B5 A4s are notorious for front suspension issues - listen for a rumbling and/or knocking at low speeds, could cost him £600+ to sort out.

      Other than that, pretty bulletproof.

Front suspension , yes, but £600, which garage are you using?

This can be fitted in less than a day.

great cars mine has 247,000 on the clock and going strong ........As above check suspension ....igntion key switch are always ones to go so check that(play in the key part does not return properly when starting screws starter motors) ,rear brake calipers sieze if not used often ,check the fan motor out through the different speeds i have just replaced the brushes in mine (nice job)..Check all boost hoses and make sure engine is clean as most boost loss on these engine equals dirty engine bay

          Cheers

OK, so those parts aren't OEM, and what's a day's labour at a decent specialist? And then there's top mounts too..

I haven't paid for this work myself so I put a rough price guesstimate on it

I don't own a B5, so never had a quote for the work...

I meant they weren't Audi parts. Or Volkswagen parts. To say they are from "European OEM producers" is a little vague, don't you think?

No, as VAG don't single source anything. There are numerous suppliers throughout the world who are OEM. Saying European actually narrows it down a bit.

                        Ha! Don't all garages?

Fair enough.. I have to say I don't buy many parts but my original £600 off-the-top-of-my-head figure came from remembering the rough cost on the VAGParts site (£398) for the bits. Quite happy to be wrong though!
