  • How to build a drag racer in thee weeks (not audi related)

A local drag racer flipped his Sierra a couple of weeks ago in qualifying. He lost traction on fourth gear and slided/"walked" out from narrow airfield strip, and flipped numeous times totalling his Sierra pretty thoroughly.

Sierra was a nice one, best ET was 8.8 and speed somewhere around 245 or so.

After the accident he drank a case of beer, watched the race to the end and told, he will be driving with a new car in the next race in Pudasjärvi, which is held this weekend.

I promised him a bottle of brandy, if he does that. So did a few others as well.

He has an image blog, and updates if it has time over building. So here You can follow the progress.

He posted last night, the engine was running. Now let's see if I owe him the bottle of brandy on saturday morning, when qualification starts in Pudasjärvi.

    Keeping my fingers crossed.

ps. if someone wants to drop in their own brandy bottle, I can forward them.

That guy (and his wife) are really devoted to drag racing I can see on the pictures. That Cortina looks great. Let's hope Pavoola still kicks his butt though

This is amazing on at least two levels ...

1 - how its possible for an experienced racer to have such a 'tank slapper' accident while going in a straight line (under maximum attack of course)

2 - how so much work can be done to build a new car is such a short space of time - pretty impressive and dedicated guy obviously

Track was very slippery, he simply lost traction very hard on high speed. Car never came back to control. He said he tried to pull out the chute, but didn't reach the handle because of all the jumping and wobbling, until it was too late.

Nice bit of lateral thinking there... fix the running gear on the damaged gear and 'simply' take the lid off a donor car to replace the destroyed original one... Mad stuff !

Best run he did was 9.9 with missing fifth gear, so to the finish with fourth on limiter...

Loving his air filter by the way - shows just how clean the atmoshere must be in Finland
