Carbon Turbo pipe GROUP BUY !

    Hi all,

Ok, for those you like to make their engine bay bling, bling as much as possible, Glen from CarbonTechnik and I are looking to find out how many people would be interested in buying a Carbon Turbo Pipe.

It will be a shiny carbon equivalent of the turbo pipe that is pointed out on the attached picture.

Cost would be around 235 £ - 600NZ$ and we need about 10 people to commit to this group buy in order to make it happen.

So, if interested, please sign in !

    Best regards to all and

    David and Glen

That's a really good idea. The carbon fibre pipe would be more heat resistive than the steel one. Last ABY/ADU cars had a plastic pipe.

I'd be tempted (yes I know it doesn't fit 3B) but the price tag is a bit steep IMHO.

Yes, this is true, every touring car and F1 car (including everything in between) that go out every weekend horsing it around the worlds circuits are just balanced on that precipice of disaster, all hinged on whether or not the Airbox or intake system made from Carbon Fibre is going to delaminate or not this weekend. Tough call.

Heheheh, even the airboxes on F3 cars are not immune! We had one explode in the garage when an engine backfired through the trumpets during warmup...

Usually not so bad on the N/A engine though, just that the scrutineers don't like the side-mounted-suppository to leak! I have seen races won by cars with split airboxes (result of tear off going over the restrictor) - only to be disqualified for the leakage and resulting power increase.

(Sounds weird - leakage and power increase in the same sentence!!!)

As for boost pipes - we ran the Le Mans cars with them. Made in-house, one each side and longer than any S2 pipe, with wiggins ferrules (yes, 'o' rings really can be made to seal properly!!!) - and they would have had to undergo 48 hour endurance tests. Depends on how well (and how heavy) you make 'em really.

Worth pointing out that (apart from that one explosion) we never had any airbox failures on our F3 engines (I'll be smug now, I designed the airbox and restrictor!!)

                  Hi guyz,

OK, anyone else interested ? Up till now, it's just Porkkis and myself.

Regarding the "delamination" issue, Glen's products are top notch and he deals regularly with with competition world so rest assured that if he says he can make one, that means he really can

And the pipe will have a "pressure" spec of 3-4 bars so it definetly should be up to the task and the inside of it will be polished as well.

As far as the price tag goes, the more people who commit to the group buy means the less cash each will have to fork out for his ( or her ) turbo pipe !

                  Take care everyone and

                    1. I dont think the F1 Carbon parts have the same quality as this one!
                    2. The heat soak of this part is not big enough to make the car perform better! this surface area can not change the temperature of the big amounts of air flowing through it when the car is boosting!

That is a very, very dangerous statement to make. It is not based on any fact or foundation. It is merely your view and you are not a party to Glen's buisness model.
As regard to (2), every little bit helps.

                        1) Your having a laugh, companies that spend millions on R&D and pioneering technical developments are going to use parts that are sub standard to a back of the shed retailer of carbon fibre???????

                        2) Yes it does make a difference, search for Bacofoil for proof on the forum.

Sod the bling, it needs to be coated with a bit of foil for best effect!

                              I could be interested.

But cant we just make a plastic copy of it so it provides a better cooling function and not cost so much?
