    Hi Mark,

Water cooled ? And how is that acheived ? Or does it just mean " Brake hard only when raining? "

BTW, still waiting for the shipping details and final price for that chromed boost pipe deal, dude.

    Take care,

Water cooling is a very good way of extracting heat from the braking system - it was banned in F1 years and years ago as a way of trying to limit braking performance.
Those are very juicy bits of kit.

It's a shame the Alcons don't have dust seals.

Why do you need those for racing brakes ? You don't need racing brakes on the street, and you don't need dust seals on racing brakes ... Simple

Yes. I realise that. It's not just these. None of the Alcons I've seen have them.

Who says you don't need racing brakes on street? The more braking power the better as far as I'm concerned.

You don't want racing callipers, if you don't fancy cleaning them every week.

Exactly. You also don't want brakes you need to warm up before actual braking...

BTW I know cases when seriously raced stock GT3 porker burned to nothing stock dust seals in several laps. So this may be an answer why alcon does not have them. IMHO street brembos are the best choice for street. Also FYI race purpose brembos have no dust seals. Same goes for wilwood. They good for track, but not so good for street, however some chaps clean them only once a year.

I'm addicted to brake porn (because I'm in the progress of yet another bike invention regarding my coupe brakes ), so seen too many calipers and pictures of them in past two months...

I may be not right , but if someone needs better brake power than semistock S2/996/A8 combo offers - get better tires. This will improve braking more, than watercooled WRC spec racing caliper. Proper pad bedding, proper brake bias, proper brake master cylinder and pads matching the application - are the real factors to eye popping stop.

Lack of dust seals is of course a major consideration for regular, fit and forget road use, fair point.
In terms of overall performance, I don't think anyone with an S2 can better Lee's setup with his 6-pot AP calipers and what was it, something like 370x36mm discs?

Absoultey you ultimately need fat, grippy tires to make the brake effort actually work on the tarmac, you make a good point there. Going to, say, the Toyo 888s will improve braking significantly.

I run On bremsport 4000 callipers which are a race calliper and have no dust seals, i clean them every 4 months with a toothbrush and plenty of brake cleaner just to polish up the pistons, had no problems with them for ages (Although the car is still off the road now). The discs i am using are AP's CP5000-212/3, bit expensive but they should do the job.
