    Buying an S2???

Hi all, i'm interested in buying an S2 and need advice in want i should check and also things to look out for.

Is there any serious faults with the S2 which should be looked upon

Is there any way to check that the turbo is working probably?

What boost pressure should the gauge read in the car for the turbo?

    Please Help Thanks Ian

    Hi Ian,

    !

First of all great choice of car. S2' are awesome you have made the right decision there.

As far as buying one goes, get yourself over to S2central.net which is run by a very nice guy called paul (username S2Central on here).

The S2 does not have a boost gauge as standard so checking the boost levels may not always be an option. However when you drive the car it will be noticeable if the car is not pulling properly (it should pull very hard between 3000 - 5000 rpm and should want to rev to the redline easily.

Are there any cars you are currently interested in looking at and whereabouts are you based? A local member may be able to go with you or show you their car running properly as a starting point.

Fire away with any more questions.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Buying guides are available on S2Central & S2Audi (links on S2forum home page).

      From experience:

Suspension takes a hammerring as they are heavy, powerful cars. Top monts especially.
Engines are really strong providing they've had regular maintenance.
Turbos are down to those who really know to assess their condition.
Brake pressure accumulators degrade over time so check it or look for the (!) on the autocheck when starting the car.
Intercoolers and inlet pipe work can leak or be subject to corrosion where they join and can cause boost leaks. IC O rings can leak. All this can cause the overboost protection to cut in on full power. New pipes, samcos or a modified IC can help.
Vacuum lines can degrade if not replaced.

There is no turbo gauge as standard so unless the car you look at has one fitted you would have to fit one or take it to a tuners to check it (or fit one yourself on the test drive).

Boost is 0.8bar @3k dropping to 0.6bar @ the red line. 1 bar overboost @ 2750-???? on ABY (S2) and AAN / ADY engines.

Not everything but a good start.

With the way the market is at the moment, I feel you may get a bargain! There's a modded Avant on here with a lot of toys for just over £5k! Linky.
