IMO its worth about £5k - £7k for the parts alone. Engine, gearbox, running gear and interior. That's it....

                  interesting thread gents

just a couple of serious questions to pose to the knowledgeable members of this forum, if one was to take on this type of project...

                  - whats the price of a new shell & what condition would Audi deliver it (fully painted or base coat only?) ?

                  - after a professional repair, can the car be inspected and the HPI history removed ? SVA inspection ?

It should be relatively easy to estimate the replacement parts cost (including a few unknowns, such as o/s turbo & manifold, etc.). It doesn't seem that heavy an impact to damage the engine structurally, although you would have to be careful about drivetrain damage, etc...

It could be a pleasurable project - simply fit all inspected & cleaned or new parts to a new shell.

                  hmmmmmmm.........

Interesting how on its 3rd listing, it is now at 11K, when it only reached 8K on its 2nd listing.

Since the drivers door does not seem to shut properly, I think we are all agreed that this is a new shell job. (although personally if I was them I would strip it for parts and be done with it)

Since the car has no chassis, the body carries the VIN plate, so how does that work when reshelling?

                      Cheers n

You have to have more than a certain percentage of parts from the original car.

OK - so that is the same as the rules for making kit cars from old beetles and fords etc, where the rules say: -

                          In order to retain the original registration mark: The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque);

                          or

A new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer/manufacturer (e.g. receipt)

And two other major components from the original vehicle - see list below

                          Suspension (front & back)
                          Axles (both)
                          Transmission
                          Steering Assembly
                          Engine

If a second-hand chassis/monocoque bodyshell is used, the vehicle must pass a ESVA/SVA test after which a "Q" prefix registration number will be allocated.

So assuming you buy a new body from Audi (so that puts BRY out of the frame then ) and the engine and gearbox are both sound, then following an inspection, it could be sold as the original car.

                          Cheers n

Buying a brand new shell is out of the question as they are NLA. VAG only carry shells for production cars and the last RS6 was built in September 2004. If it was available it would be in the region of £6-8000 and would be supplied completey bare. It's worth noting that according to VAG the UK is the only country that even considers reshelling vehicles. If you want to reshell something buy a Ford. Complete shell including bonnet and tailgate painted in body colour is around £1500.

Without inspecting the shell itself it's impossible to tell whether what's left could be rebuilt. Assuming the shell is sufficiently straight it could be done.

I quoted a figure of £10,000 at the start of the thread for parts which included a lot of structural components that to most people would warrant a shell replacement.

From personal experience it is not uncommon for a huge amount structural metal work to be fitted to accident damaged cars during repair. For example I have supplied the complete rear end of a Touran recently including complete inner and outer quarter panels, wheel arch inner sections, boot floor, rear chassis legs, roof, tailgate etc. On face value a vehicle with that much damage should be a write off but it was repaired.

Personally I think breaking it is the way to go though.

                                nice discussion gents

it's great to dream about the possibility of rebuilding an RS6 from bolt together parts and to have a top quality car with a resale value at the end. But I guess reality is far from that.

since a new shall is not available, the repair would then entail some serious skills only available at a bodyshop with the correct jigs, tools, spray booth, etc. and a labour rate of ££££'s per hour.

I guess this type of project could never be done by enthusiasm alone.........

                                dream on.............
