Was just going to ask the same thing. Really needs a garage that knows the car inside out.
Is it at least getting a spark? Is the fuel coming through to the fuel rail?

Hi their is fuel getting to the rail and a spark. The plugs/leads/dizzy/and coil have all been replaced. The injectors were serviced about 6 months ago and a new ecu was fitted about 12 months ago.The car was running fine with no faults, just went to start it and the engine just would start. It was in my local garage as tha was the easiest place to get it to and they carried out the services/repairs to the car in the past. They dont really specialise in audis though.Im based in herefordshire kington to be exact. If anyone local can help me with it as im really at a dead end now!Checked all fuses/ecu connection/all engine earths.Maybe the engine timing could have slipped as this has not been checked yet.It does seem like the spark is not consistent, but all the iginition components have been replaced.Any help will been great!THanks

get a metal dizzy gear fitted, as when the drive for the dizzy is worn it causes this problem.

                  That's a real bitch.

i'm sure someone here must know of a nearer place, but it sounds like Dialynx in Swindon may be your nearest specialist ? Alternatively, if you fancied bringing it to south wales, there's Westec in Newport...... but there don't seem to have been many positive reports about them for S2 servicing on this forum. I know that they have seen them before though.... but literally it would be single figures for experience i would imagine. There are very few down this way. Have you got a mate who could give you a tow to Swindon or summat?

                  Tim

P.S. just noticed BRY has posted.... probably rendering what i've written pointless!

To be honest n300, if I were you I would get a good recommend for a garage who does know there stuff and get it trailored to them. It will be the best option in the long run.

Mihnea/Doug at MRC aren't that far away from you - they're in Oxfordshire somewhere, they would definitely be able to sort you out?!

It's obviously an electrical fault Not mechanical.
IF you have a volt meter and have good knowledge of electrics
do a continuity (resistance) check on the 3 main sensors
                          1) Hall sender ( on dizzy in your case)
                          2) Crankshaft sensor ( Crank position)
                          3) crankshaft sensor (speed sensor)

EVen if the bottom two are faulty, the car can still be
                          push - started.

Not all electrical problems show up as a fault code as i found out
                          the hard way

hi charlie the hall sendor has been renewed and made no difference, and from what i read on other posts if the crank sensor fails their is a no spark situation.Apparently they cannot pull any codes from the ecu as the wiring has all been messed up when the immobiliser/stereo were fitted! Is it possible to test the ecu as it may be the fault, or possibly the engine timing slipped?any other things to check would be great!
