I'd have to disagree about it being a waste. 32B passat is a close relative to our beasts. Under the skin the front end is almost the same as ours. If my GL5 donor car was in better condition I'd be doing a similar conversion. Only problem is they never imported synchros into the UK and a 220+ bhp FWD passat would be a right handful.

i am biased though as I own both

I'd have to agree with S2Avant - my first car was a Santana GX5...

They are nice cars. I too was tempted to carry out an ABY conversion, I used to own a 1988 Passat Variant GL5. Engine bay is actually longer than that of type 85 / 89 cars.

FWD put me off, I did buy a 1985 VW Tetra (LHD). Being an early car, it wasn't badged as a Passat Syncro. Alas, the red terror had a firm grip, so wasn't worth converting.

32B cars are very understated though, and I certainly don't think fitting an S2 engine to one is a waste.

That would be a bit of a handful to drive though wouldn't it?

With Syncro 4WD (actually true quattro) an S2 - engined 32B is no more of a handful to drive than a Ur quattro 20V or a Coupe S2. It would probably handle better, as the type 32B has a longer wheelbase than a type 85 or 89 quattro.

There is a couple of real bad*ss 32B Passat`s with 2,2 20vt engines here in Norway. One has 380 hp MTM 3B engine in it. A friend of mine is building a 32B with RS2 brakes and alot of other goodies. A real wolf in sheeps clothing :mischeif:
