    money

Mine wasnt a ur, it was a coupe quattro.
I had to buy an aby engine to start with.
Plus the cage, seats, harnesses, wheels, full samco hosing, wide arch body work, exhaust, subframe/wishbone bushes, brakes, top mounts! new rads, 2 water pumps etc and then pay for normal stuff like tyres etc
Bill so far with labour and paint is around £8500, but it was £4000 if the mrs is reading this, hence the selling off of other parts I have collected during the build

      qrsport explains pt1

hi,all just an explanation of the top mount saga.we were approached by STEPHEN FELL OF TAS THEN STEPHEN FELL MOTORSPORT AND NOW COMPBRAKES,with a bremsport brakekit that would not fit an s2,myself and jan spent many an hour sorting, the correct offset for the bells, the correct brackets, and the poor pads giving excessive dust and heavy disc wear not suitable for road use.i knew TAS had made rose top mounts for a polo g40 but they were fixed by drilling the tower, not suitable for us.the dimensions are virtually the same, steve made 2 test pieces.but they didnt fit.we have a local engineering company.HUNTER PRECISION,he remade the mounts so they would fit.WE DID DEVELOPE THE FIRST TOP MOUNTS.and tested these on my own s2 avant.after a test period of 3 months trialing them on my s2 avant.jans ur quattro and an s2 coupe,we decided we were happy to sell them, initially to people who would give unbiased feedback.we had 3 mods we had to do,the ones being used with bilstein b6+8s were modified.ones for certain coilover systems were also modified, and an extendid top version to incorperate an integral strut brace.

just a small question... is it normal with a H&R coilover kit that the shock "pin" don't go all the way to the top of the "nut", or have I installed them all wrong?

we worked with STEPHEN FELL building a relationship with him in as much as he manufactured them for us,it was our idea to proceed with the top mounts in all their variants we probably could have had them manufactured elseware but we couldnt guarantee the quality[corey].after all we have invested £25000 with steve and remained loyal to him most people wouldnt take that risk.we did make a few enquiries into reproducing them but the load strength of the bearing was an issue.we cannot say if the other top mounts he is making are exactly the same material or even the same bearings,at least our own we can.as for spare top rings we have them in stock[pastures16]if you call daren he will send them.if you read carefully compbrakes blurb it does say built for motorsport use this means they wont last in constant use,or you will get an uncomfortable ride etc,the topmounts are an exception to this as are the brake kits providing you use the correct pads.we actually tested these before selling them,so you see we did develop the first rosejointed top mount and we tested them.STEPHEN FELLakaCOMPBRAKEScan sell these to whoever he likes, but we cant tell you what quality they will be.tim cooper

oki, it's all right then.. they are H+R coilover kit with Tüv.. 6mm from the top og the center thread right, not the LARGE thread.. Why I wonder is because a friend of mine has a H+R "dtm" coilover kit and on his the damper is over the top of the centre nut, but on mine the damper is "down in the thread"..

                yes

hi silver boy.ive come across this before im not sure if the dtm kit has a lower position to the top cap allowing the damper to come farther up in to the top mount, once youve ran them for a while recheck the nut and securing rings they do settle in .............tim

oki.. just to get this totaly right: the nut should be HIGHER than the damper? I can put my finger into the nut and then reach the damper insde.. right?
