    Big Favour Request

    Hi

i am interseted in the 3B S2 on autotrader for £4k with 111k miles on ( i would attach a link but i dont know how to ) unfortunately though i live in Cleveleys near Blackpool and the car is in Elton in Greenwich SE London . So i am writing to see if anyone on the forum lives near there and wouldn't mind going down to have a look at the car for me. I have spoke to the owner and he is OK with this

I really would appreciate any help

    Cheers Rob

I'd say that looks like a great buy, if it's all as he says it is. Low mileage for a 3B. Budget £500 for a front upgrade though!

My handbrake looks like that one too... and still doesn't hold the car on a steep slope!

have got 500ish ready fro brake upgrade, seems in good nick but dont want to go all that way for nothing so really need some expert opinion on what it is like, as my mechanical experience only goes as far as changing a wheel

You really need to go look at it though, you can get a feel for the car yourself as you may feel that particular car is not for you, i had to travel to Lan-dan to get my car.

I got my car from Scotland.... and i live just outside NW London... flew up with cash and drove it back.
Mine was the last one i went to see. I went to see all of the S2's for sale on the trader at the time i was looking, to get a feel for the cars as well as more things to look out for. Admitedly that would have wasted a few peoples time as i knew i had no intention of buying, but i went armed with the right questions and where to look for things etc so i wasnt just tyre kicking.
End of the day, people wanna sell the cars so if you at least have questions to ask and things to look for then they wont think you have no intention of buying.
Plus the more you see, the more you learn of things to look out for etc.

If that car is in London that you like, then perhaps make a trip at a weekend, maybe if you are able to, make a weekend of it? see the car on a saturday, then maybe take the mrs with or something, do some shopping or evening out or something before getting the train back, at least then its a worthwhile trip whatever happens.

i will then, i just thought if someone lived round the corner or just a few miles away they could have a general glance to see if it looked OK, as last week i travelled 2.5hrs to look at supposedly a mint condition with no bumps S2, when i got there the only panel that hadnt been resprayed or replaced was the drivers door, the wing was even held on with a screw in place of a missing bolt. So i am reluctant to travel all that way. i suppose that is the risk you take though

                          Ask for more pictures first.

I specifically asked for any areas of the car that were a bit ropey or need attention and explained that i obviously need to travel a great distance, so wanted to cover as much as i could before i came, as, if i came then i would more than likely be buying the car.
Maybe i was just fortunate, but the guy i bought from was very helpful and appreciated the circumstances of us being something like 700 miles apart.

hmm, mine has speakers on the front doorcards, a set of original Audi fitted Alpines which when I was suggesting changing them the guy said he'd leave them well alone. Apparently it was very expensive ICE at the time - i have nooooo idea
