I have NCTS but I am curious, if the history is known and it has been repaired correctly then wouldn't it make a cheap car?
Or has there been the extensive use of duck tape and bailing twine?

The s4/s6 was quicker on the move(mid range) than m5-m3 911 of the same era, just take a look and compare in gear acceleration!!.

@blown vr6: I was just gonna say that too.
@quattroamm: take a look at what? I have customers with stock ABY avants (similar weight to a 100S4) that used to struggle with E36 M3s when they were stock and with a stage 1 they're just a bit quicker than a 3.2 E36 M3, but only because they're close to 430Nm whereas the M3 probably only has 320...

Isn't a CAT D write off "only" beyond economical repair? If that is the case it could simply be bumpers and paint and if done properly not a problem?
                  (Or does someone know more?)

                  Cheers,

Well having come from a E34 M5 3.8 which is pretty much similar to an E36 M3 Evo i know my S2 Avant (which will have the legs on an S4/S6) is still nowhere near my old M5.
Yeah you might catch the big six off guard if your on full boost and the M is stirring the box to get the revs up to somewhere where its producing power but once you get it up there with a bit of cog stirring then the S4 wont have a chance.
To say its quicker than an M3 is bending the truth slightly - yeah it might pull 30-50 in 4th and 50-70 in 5th quicker than the M3 but come on - if your going for it what are you doing in 4th at 30mph

As for it being a cat D - as long as the seller discloses what it is then i dont see a problem as long as its been repaired properly and the price is right

                      Pete.

I though that for manufacturer quoted stock figures the 3b is quicker by 0.1s to 100kmh than an E36 3.0 M3. Nearly 1s slower over the 1/4 mile though. Can't find a copy of the origina Top Gear article though.

Performance car article shows that the ABY isn't so good in the drag race sense against the 3.2 Evo(cheers to S2-audi for this) linky but then we knew that. S2 minces the M3 on the in-gear stuff though and we knew that too.

Bloomin close with a remap though!

Thats an ABY against a 3 litre non Evo M3 in that test.
Cant really compare the in gear figures too much as the Audi is 6spd and the BMW is 5 so ratios are miles apart when they are both in the same gear - look how far the BMW pulls in 4th compared to the Audi.
A fairer comparison would be BMW in 3rd Audi in 4th,BMW in 4th Audi in 5th etc - i think things would be alot closer in gear then.....
1.1 seconds quicker over the 1/4 mile is night and day in real terms.
If im being honest i still dont think mine which has Pauls ECU in it at the moment is close to my M5.
Dont get me wrong i love the Audi but i know if i came up against a healthy E36 M3 Evo with a vanos system thats working (and thats half the reason why many are sick performance wise) then i know in my head i wouldnt stand a chance - 320bhp versus 280bhp in a lighter car doesnt add up - torque can only do so much and thats not taking into account the greater rolling losses the Audi has from the 4wd

                          Pete.
